Firearms medical

I've used both Ian and Lucy McKenzie for medical reports for both of my children's firearm's medical certificates when our then practice flatly refused; I have nothing but the highest praise for their efficient service. They were originally part of the BASC "panel".

I’ve just sent the link over to the same mate I mentioned above, for when he applies for his FAC 😅
Many thanks!

I have just received notification for my firearms licence renewal.

My Doctor charges a blackmail fee of £220. Last time I used Medcert but before I contact them I wonder how others have got on with them or if there are any other recommendations.
The stupid thing about Medcert route is that the GP surgery still has to copy your records and send them across to Medcert and the GP doesn’t get paid for doing this. In other words by chsrging £220 the GP surgery still does similar level of work and gets nowt.

There is provision within the GDPR for a fee to be charged for providing information, but it must be due to extenuating circumstances.

I used medical4firearms .60 quid and received proforma 48 hours after they received my histroy from GP surgery.

Mind you surgery where very unhelpful and it took many e mails that they never responded to and the receptionist who took my phone calls would not give me the practice managers contact details .Took over 10 weeks from me sending the request form to the 3rd party before I got what I needed .The 3rd party where very good though and non of the delay was their fault .

For this reasons and others, namely appalling service, we have now as a family all moved medical practices. My new practice did the proforma without any issues; £40 is the basic cost, I paid an extra £40 for a fast service and it was back in 2 days.

You are fortunate theft other local practices would accept yoy. Seems to be a cartel operating within 30 miles of me.

My GP charged £85 at last renewal it took so long I was given an extension, I even got an email asking did I still want this service, well yes as it's rather important, now with the dvla it took so long, I pushed them and eventually all done in 1 day, but needed a section 88 to keep on the road. I was told they had been busy and I was put on the back burner.

I think it’s about time there was a national maximum fee for just reviewing your med records and filling out a form. It is a national mandatory requirement from the Home Office / Police which involves the NHS (which we already pay for) so a national fee reflecting the 30 minutes effort is now a must.

I used Medcert no problems at all, on time and £60.
Your GP charging £220 is disgraceful, if it was my surgery i would be poorly elsewhere.

the problem is that completing these forms is not part of a gP's contract with the NHS, therefore its private work that they are free to charge what they like, or not take on the work at all

No where with in the area will take on patients, they have it sewn up in a GP cartel (even although neighboring practices charge much less.

It is actually worse than the £220 as I have been informed that the charge is now £200 PER CERTIFICATE, even although only one letter is required for a co-terminus renewal!
I have instructed Medical4Firearms at a cost of £60.
