Well done, any pictures of it hanging in your fridge? How did you get on with the clean out was it on the ground or suspended?
What was it Roe or MJ

No did not get to clean it out or bring it home as we could not find it.
The dog found it about a hour later but we had left the farm by then .
so this part will take place next time 🤞 it was a roe 6 pointer.
Well done on your first deer. Shame it didn't go to plan.
Couldn't you have gone back for it, when you heard it had been found? Shame not to have a photo, at least.
Hope it ended up in someone's fridge, even if not your own.

When it was found the guy took a photo see below
But the guy who took me out is going to boil the head for me.
I was on my way home and it is 90 miles each way when the deer was found.

What a great morning

Well done on your first deer, but can I ask/raise a couple of questions?
You shot a deer, great, but couldn’t find it and yet still went on to shoot and “miss” a second beast.
I’m sorry, but I would a) have thought the first was worthy of spending the time to find? Also with what one assumes was an unknown outcome to the first shot, to then go on and miss a second, would be an odd decision to take.
I’m not having a dig, but I read this with a tinge of disappointment in all honesty. Glad it was found, and glad you shot your first deer, but some things I would hope would be done differently. We all make mistakes etc, I’m not being holier than thou but with a lost beast to find I’d be putting the other stalk to one side and focussing on the one in the hand.
Hopefully there were some valuable lessons learned from the experience. 👍

I find it amazing that some people don't know all the facts of a situation but form an opinion on what they think may have happened just so that they can try and show that they are superior to the rest of the members. No wonder novices do not want to post on here. I was talking to the stalker that Bottletop bill went with a little earlier and he told me the buck was in a standing crop and he watched the shot through binoculars and saw the neck smash therefore knowing it was dead. He has an agreement with the landowner that anything out in the standing crop that is definitely dead he would rather go straight out to it with his dog than have the stalker out there trampling his crop looking for it. His land his rules. As he couldn't get out for an hour Jeff took the decision to carry on stalking rather than just sit and wait. I daresay if it was even slightly possible it was still alive he would have gone looking for it. The guy has access to professional tracking dogs only 5 mins away. The carcase is now apparently in the farmers chiller waiting for the keeper to butcher. If you look at the bullet entry on the picture it shows it died instantly

This:
he watched the shot through binoculars and saw the neck smash therefore knowing it was dead.

And this:
as we could not find it.

Paint two very different pictures of the same event. One is a known dead deer to be retrieved later and the other is a lost deer (that was subsequently found using a dog).

Thanks for your excellent (some would say superior? ) knowledge which has nicely clarified the situation.

Sorry for any confusion yes i was told by my guide that it was dead for sure as he had seen the hit.
This was my first stalk and i put lost but that was my wording did not know comments had to be word perfect for the expert stalkers.
I can also see why people do not bother as only put down by a few

Forgive me, I wasn’t putting you down, but questioning possibly the methods put forward in your original post. I did also congratulate you on your first deer, had it been mine I’d personally have wanted to find it and enjoy the full experience and finish the process, not rush onto the next.

Wished i had never posted anything now bye the way the deer was removed withing a hour yes any one can look in grass but owner said no going onto the crops
he will get the dog to find it .
I think this is what they call respecting the owners wishes and having RESPECT and being trust worthy on the land
This may be the reason so many are struggling to get permissions because others have ruined it for them
