Lightweight stalking rifle

If you like your current rifle why not get the barrel shortened to 20". I have a friend who shoots a 20" barrelled 6.5 CM and he's very happy with it.

I was thinking about it but I've not long joined an f class club and I use the rifle for both as it's my first centrefire. Going to keep the 6.5 creedmoor for f class and get a short 308 for stalking I think 🤔

Not easy to find but I’ve a Kimber Montana. Light as a feather and super accurate. Blind magazine is the only thing that I don’t particularly like but nothing would tempt me to get rid of this rifle. It’s definitely not for everyone and most wouldn’t even consider a US lightweight mountain rifle for UK stalking but I can carry it all day with ease and I’ve had no issues with a range of factory ammo (lead or copper).

Define lightweight! My deer (fallow) rifle is a Sako 85 Hunter in .308 Win, 57cm barrel, walnut stock, detachable steel mag with five rounds 150gr Sierra ProHunter, 2.5-10x32 FFP scope, rings and sling. Clocks in at 4.21kg (9.28 Ibs).
I must say that this is a truly remarkable rifle as it defies the collective knowledge and opinions of many of the pundits on the forum!:stir:

Cheers

Sig Cross in .308 (16" barrel) or 6.5CM (18" barrel). Very light, very accurate and my Creedmoor version has never let me down.

Hi PhilSN12,

Its off topic - what type of cover is than on the MLOK foreand?

Glendine.

There is a Tikka T3 .308 in the classifieds with a 16” aftermarket barrel including a-tex hertz mod and Harris bipod for £600. Add a PSE stock and away you go.

They are made by Magpul, 6 in a box, the hand stop is Magpul too.

Hi guys,

I currently use a 24" tikka in 6.5 creedmoor for all my stalking. It sometimes is far too long and a pain in the ass 🤣.

Thinking of saving up and getting something a little lighter and more handy.

Just looking for ideas what you guys all think?

My initial thoughts was to get a 308 in around a 20" barrel or so. Then put it in something like a pse stock.

I also like the looks of the sig cross as its extremely light and has good adjustability in the butt.

A adjustable comb is a must too.

Any good ideas guys? Also anyone with experience on these particular kinds of rifles just so I can do some research for a while before jumping in.

All input is appreciated guys 👍
I have a 20” Tikka T3 in .308 that I dropped into a PSE E-Lite stock with the adjustable comb - so basically exactly what you are thinking about going to.

Let me tell you - it is superb.

The PSE stocks are not cheap options but, like everyone on SD who has one, I wouldn’t part with it for the world. It has transformed my rifle and you wouldn’t regret the purchase. Dropping the T3 action into it was as straightforward as people say. PSE are as good as everyone says.

The combination of 20” T3 .308 in a PSE stock will make you a happy happy stalker.

Hope that helps
