Got a friend going through FAC renewal and having all sorts of issues. Very much "anti" from both the GP and Police. He takes some meds for a minor issue which in higher doses can also be prescribed for anti depressants so both sides are flagging this as an issue EVEN though he takes the minor dose. If you take human beings out of the loop then common sense goes and "computer says" takes over.
Yup they will use anything . I am sure the form say any anti depressants in the last 5 years. I feel for the guy
If I read all the information correctly, the police in England (and therefore Wales) seek to operate the 'Scottish system' - you get the medical first or you dont get an FAC and my expectation is this will also apply to Shotguns.

I am very concerned that this will apply irrespective of any conditions to all applicants/those who wish to renew. This seems to me to be what the consultation is about.

I believe the current system in England and Wales, although variable, in those areas which are trialing the 'new way' require the medical up front. In the 'old system' the police sent the medical form to the doc who ticked any of the 'warning conditions'. if you were seen to be suffering one of these conditions the police would ask YOu fo a more detailed report (i.e. you pay) if all is well, fine. With the Scottish system, you are required to send a completed medical report, as with HGV drivers, before you can then proceed to submit your firearms form/shotgun form.
Perhaps those stalkers in Scotland could confirm their recent experience and any English Welsh stalkers their recent experience to confirm or change my view given above.

The applicant receives the initial GP letter and is required to have it completed by the GP.
This is not a medical report
This letter basically lists the same medical conditions as are on the application form, and ask the doctor to tick any conditions applicable, agree to put a marker on the applicants medical record and allows the GP to make comments felt relevant to the application.
That form is the returned to the applicant and given to the FEO at the time of the home visit.
If there are medical issues, the police may require the applicant to obtain a full medical report from their GP and to pay for it.
In reality a "full medical" is usually a summary from the GP of the applicants entire medical record.
If the police are still undecided, and want any further medical examinations, then the police have to pay for it - but that never happens because Police Scotland are broke

Not I'm my experience, here in Sussex I just filled out my FAC , signed the part that says I give permission for them to access my medical file, then a week later got an invoice from the doctor for £30 (admin fee apparently) paid it and a week later FEO popped round for a check on the cabinets and FAC dropped on the mat soon after. This was earlier this year.

Likewise. Felt like a bit of a Judas stumping up, but £15 for a co-term seemed like the doc was trying to be fair. My FEO is also really nice (which I know shouldn't matter, but it does...).
Wait till you see if yous get the way it is up here. It not just the listed conditions it any thing . The doctor hand write this on mine like do not grant I had a stroke due to high blood pressure but I not disabled in any way but the doctor tried to frame it in a way to say I had a neurologic condition which is technically true but he never wroke stroke he used fancy medical terms to mislead the police hoping that his word was the end of it. Emperor complex. That's what I was on about . There is probably some honest doctors but there is some bastards as well

Imo you seem to be getting singled out for special treatment Muirmains. The medical tick form is very straightforward unless you have a complicated medical history..Talk to your shooting organisation if this is the case is my advice..
