Everything I have has a practical use, if it’s of no use it’s gone!
Personally i cant see the point in having 4 rifles that does 1 job!
I have better things to do with my time and money!
Guns no longer excite me, they are a specific tool for a specific job, no different than a Hammer or a knife!

No issue with the one rifle does everything sentiment. Ditto one shotgun does everything sentiments.
But for many, having and changing different rifles is very much part of the enjoyment. And whilst we have the freedom to do so to reasonable level then why not.
I like older guns, and slowly building a portfolio of fine Scottish guns. I certainly cannot shoot them all at once, but I do enjoy the process of finding, researching, acquiring. I have not yet got to disposing of many, as all my guns have different uses with different stories and memories. Whilst I only have the one daughter, I do have godsons and nephews and nieces and others who will all fight over my collection in a few decades time.
I wonder if it makes you a better shot Lee having all these different rifles
The .243 with the Drone 10 on top is for foxes which keeps me in pigeons and deer
and the .270 covers from Muntjac to Reds same round...
Do you recon they never had many toys growing up so now make up for it in rifles...

The subtleties of a fine knife, rifle or hammer are lost on the novice, except in extremes such as using a sledge hammer for 10mm tacks.
Having one rifle you will eventually learn to shoot it well and never be distracted by one that fits better, balances better, has a better trigger etc etc.
Let’s hope it never goes wrong and you wait over 12 months for a variation to replace it.
My first toys were guns, that's where I started, over 50 years ago now it's a joy to shoot several different flavor full bores.

I use one rifle for %99 of my deer, one £20.00 knife and a £6.00 tripe knife from a boot sale..Specific toll for a specific job, great that you agree with the majority of SD members

I take one welder a 9" & 4-1/2" grinder 1 tape 1 square 1 6lb hammer on a short shaft but a SiHT load of clamps
oh and a piece of chalk...

I have 3 cf rifles. A 270 because employers insist on it. 6.5-284 because can't use 270 for recreational purposes and I prefer the 6.5-284 with higher bc bullets allows more accuracy over distance. 6.5x47 because some recreational shooting I have demands going through Atlantic Oak woodland so I have a R8 at 36" in length which is better suited than the longer 6.5-284. I would love to have only 1 rifle that would do it all very well. That is, until that 1 rifle/scope setup has a problem then I would be flummoxed.

Having shot and owned 308 and 7-08 and 243 from your list , your wasting your money . A 308 is very , very close to a 7-08 about ten grains in difference in the mid range . Put some extra weight in the stock and shoot a lighter bullet in the 308
Its really 150 grain in 308 and 140 in 7-08 as the std but 308 is available down to 100 grain ? and up to bigger and heavier than you might want to load . Heck you take a 308 case and neck it down like half a mm.
buying lots of rifles that are similar is frankly just going to get you shooting worse

They for get the ONE wife runs the show and despite what they think she knows you are taking a £50.00 air rifle out and swapping it for 2k worth of rifle lol

I have 2, one is for Sundays, Holy days, feast days, special occasions and special hunts.
The other is for wet days, hinds, foxes , crows and visitors to borrow until I‘m sure you can be trusted with the first one.
Theres also the fact that having a spare is rarely a mistake.

I presume you are in England shooting deer with a thermal scope ?

4 rifles for the same job might be too much but 1 plus a spare is about right for me.
