Novice Stalk vs DSC1

Without parroting what everyone else has said, I would get out and do some stalking prior to taking the DSC1 course. I think the information in it is far more useful and you will enjoy it more if you have some practical experience in which to relate it to. I did the DSC1, enjoyed it and go a lot out of it and had approx. 5-10 outings completed before I attended.

Before going out stalking you may want to attend a shooting school with a rifle range first (you may already proficient and so can ignore this). You want to make sure you already have the basics of fire arm safety and how to fire a rifle with a competent degree of accuracy. If you are a novice, I am sure the stalker will run through the safety elements prior to setting off anyway, but from your own confidence and a deer welfare point of view I would say its worth getting at least one trip to the range under your belt before going out.

No idea where you are based but I live in West London and can recomend the below shooting school from experience as a starting off point:

After all the hoo hah lately on here is it an equal rights trans gender friendly range? 😄

Either or.
If you go for a guided stalk first the quality of the guide will make a big difference.
If you're a novice and you're honest some guides will want you to have a half day training / coaching session before going out on a stalk.
If you really like learning new knowledge you can get a heck of allot from a DSC1, many people pass it 1st time that have never stalked and never even fired a centre fire rifle before. You can learn allot more than is required to pass and a good trainer will give you allot of extra nice to know information if students are keen for it.

Just be sure you do both before seeking out a lease / syndicate, they complement each other and there's no substitute for learning in the field from a good mentor. I've taken allot of people out that concluded they wasted their time and money on lease / syndicate membership as they couldn't take full advantage of it with their limited experience.

Which side of Oxford are you K? Cornbury Park offer tailored novice stalks. If you go that route, ask for Tom Marshall and explain your situation
