Pcw3000 winch rope query .... again

I have quite a lot of Amsteel/Dyneema grey 8mm in lengths of 100 & 75 metres.
Would have to check postage PM me if you are interested. £20.00 per 100mts plus something towards postage.

+1 for the Dyneema. Any polyester rope involves a degree of risk when used on a capstan style winch - they will VERY QUICKLY overheat if the load stops and the rope is slipping on the capstan. It's also the reason that they're never used in any regulated lifting operation - once the surface is glazed from a hot spot, that's more than likely where it will eventually fail. The other consideration (especially if you're pulling out a boat!) is stretch - polyester will stretch, and all that means is that you're storing energy in the rope. If anything fails, there'll be kit flying in all directions. I fully understand that everyone tries to save money, but having seen people fatally injured by polyester rope failure, please trust me when I say it's better to spend the extra for Dyneema. Stay safe!

Paul just be careful if ordering rope off ebay as I ordered some off there 2 week ago and it never arrived, after a week they apologised and said another one would be dispatched...
Just opened a dispute with eBay tonight for my money back as still no.rope..
Money for no old rope!

200m has not been a problem to handle for me. It's in a rope bag. Walk out to the deer with rope bag on my back, gralloch, strop them to spliced eye with carabina walk back and rope pays itself out but just run it through my hand to make sure there are no tangles. Winch in. Push feed rope back into bag, fasten spliced end to loop on bag, ready to use again. Knots lessen the breaking strain of rope

I will add to the above:- sometimes if the dragging route is a bit mucky then I wont gralloch until after they are winched

All the lengths of 8mm dyneema-Amsteel grey are Sold. Thank you to all those that enquired purchased.

Dyneema/spectra has a much lower melting point than a double braid rope. It also fairs much less in cycle to failure tests. It is however super strong and light. A good compromise would be 8 or 10 mm friction cord. Super strong and quite static. Sirus is fairly cheap.

Do not use the blue type polypropylene rope, it will stretch and break!!!

Could try going down to Fishtown at Usan the guy in the potting shed may have something you can use they have reels an reels of different dia ropes down there.

That guy wouldn’t give time of day never mind anything else

Go down there just as likely to get mouthful of abuse for just being there

Thanks Patjack, rope arrived today.
Just the job, 100m + fits easily in a carrier bag and only weighs 4.5lb.
Amazing stuff really, 5ton+ breaking strain (new) and only 8mm!

A couple of other ideas is some pulleys and slings, keep them in you rope bag, come in very handy while pulling.
