Real world range S&B 8x56

I am tempted to sell my German S&B 8x56 complete with Burris Signature rings for a picatiny rail, but I might regret it if some deer turned up on my patch. Can't go on hording stuff for ever, I've got three other 8x56s in boxes.

Just to point out they shoot 1200yards at Bisley with open sights…. But they do have to practice. An 8x56 will cover any realistic/reasonable stalking range
Not the best mag for woodland stalking imo.
I like to be able to go down to 2.5.
Ken.

Longest fox I've had is 300 with mine and that was pushing the limit on it. Could see it's head so aimed at that and dropped the round into its chest. Could happily do that on a deer If I really had to.

Since I now shoot over open farm land and close woodland I've gone down variable mag route with a zeiss victory diavari 3-12x56 with asv turrets on both my 243 and 308. Can do extended range shots accuratly if needs, the bigger mag helps a bit but also crank it down for when im shooting in some of the rides.

in all seriousness if I didn't do a bit of everything I'd just stick to the 8x56 schmidt because there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, they are fantastic scopes for the money and seriously underestimated by people

I have an S&B 8x56 but found it cumbersome in the woods, often difficult to get on the target due to restricted field of view under 100m.
Changed to a 2.5-10 x50 Polar, love it, shoot most woodland stuff at x4 or x6.
Also in the process of acquiring a .222 for woodland Munties and very much considering putting a 1-6 x24 on it.
I guess it all depends on your ground but at x8 I would be drawing the line at 250m especially on small quarry.

Save your money and fix your z6 on x8. Beyond me why you need to change.
Also by using your existing scope on 8 it will answer your question you have asked🙈
The only reason is overkill with bells and whistles I don’t need on the Z6, and the fact that the S&B is in the cupboard and the Swarovski will sell for 1k plus, as im overscoped for its use which will be open ground

Had a fixed Schmidt 12x56 with fine reticule which had its uses but no stalking scope for every day use but with good rest it was a nice thing to use but limited, great vermin scope.

Didn’t realise you have a S&B. Cheaper to buy a rail and you can then switch if needed
