i hear a lot of people saying they are not going to bother voting , if it was up to me it would be a legal requirement that you voted but i would make it easier and i would also incorporate a few referendums on importent subjects at the time so the people get more of a say

i would also have a none of the above box and if that reached a threshold then a government could not be formed and all sitting MP's lose their jobs across all the parties and are never allowed into a position of power again and a new lot of people would have to stand , i believe that would focus the MP's on their jobs and not telling lies.

also , if an MP is proven to lie they lose their job and are never allowed near politics again, and along side this anything illegal should be punished by 50% more than whatever we would be punished for the same offence because our leaders should lead by example

safe to say i am rather dissillusioned with the state of our politics but at least we are not american !

sorry about the rant !

oh , and you should not be able to be a politician unless you have run a business , no more being an MP having never had a proper job!

and , lords/royalty/MP's should all retire at the standard retirement age without exception ! i think the queen should have retired to her horses at 65 and had at least 30yrs to herself

ok , i think thats it ?

for now........

did normal people with a bentley also pay the same?

what about if a 'toff' drove a moris minor?
That was my point - the old system did not discriminate.

I should have said the man/woman with a large gas-guzzling and heavily polluting car paid the same as those with something less costly to fill with four-star and commensurately less damaging to the planet, but it seemed a bit of a mouthful!

I rather agree with most of what you say, apart from the retirement bit. There are many people who have fantastic brains, wisdom and experience that are well into their 80’s, 90’s etc. and can continue to play a valuable contribution.

Besides some of us are now much closer to the age of retirement than we to leaving education and still haven’t yet worked out what we want to do when we grow up.

There are plenty who are just plain useless and have been so from birth.

As a person that has worked (and still does) on 2 different sections of hs2 on excavations. I can confirm how painfully slow it’s moving along, too many people being paid to do nothing. I can see how it’s costing so so much day in day out.

Consider the current state of affairs of politics and the Houses of Parliament as a bird - the Tories and Labour are just different wings of the same bird.
If you honestly want change, vote for a completely different bird.....

If there were minimal votes for either party, and two of the lesser voted for parties were brought in, it would have a knock on effect for the House of Lords, etc.
Can the unknowns do a worse job than the current two offerings? Probably...but there's more chance of these offerings doing hard work and potentially listening to the public, being grateful of the opportunity.

ok , normal people retire when you want , and there would be nothing stopping MP's/lords/royalty from finding other employment in other arenas i just firmly believe that the whole system needs amassive shake up and fresh pair of eyes

take our royal family , king charles is starting his job at 70+ and our lovely queen devoted her whole life to us where if she had retired at 65 she still had a lot of life left to live for herself and king charles would have been in his 40's with hopefully more energy etc to deal with the job in hand ?
