Deer don't do calendars or rut when we think they should

I've heard sika calling as early as August and roe chasing well past the traditional dates


Wouldn't be the first time I've said to myself

I'll try a call , totally not expecting anything,only to be nearly knocked over by one

One buck was chasing a doe intermittently here in Stirlingshire tonight.

No activity on our end in five(?) outings now I've seen under 10 deer only one small tiny buck, yesterday nightfall our first rain started too drop and It was blustery and poor in the morning spotted one doe and a kid as we went back.

On our way home we spotted two fawns alone maybe a smidge of sign?

I need a bloody better phone! horrible camera on this thing for anything moving....

The roe rut seems to be starting here in Gloucestershire. Came across this buck following hard on a doe - both of which came into my call yesterday morning (0645). That said, it seems to be quite a slow start with most of the bucks (especially the better ones) still keeping their heads down in the shade.

I need too! I got given an iPhone 8 what has a better camera but I've been using android for so long now I have zero clue how too use it, I also have my dads old Samsung but the charger on its buggered and It only charges by wireless.

This camera isn't really that terrible Its just low lighting and moving it really struggles with for example one of the hens I took a photo off in daylight not nearly as bad! fine too take photos of dead deer, not quite alive and bouncing around deer lol.

iPhone or the old Samsung arent bad too bring with me purely for photos but only my winter trousers have enough pockets for two phones.

Called this young lad in tonight, came trotting in to about 20 yards away.
Didn't want to shoot him so just photographed him.
