Just curious as to the way Sporting Rife is going , only a couple of years ago it was more about stalking and hunting in the UK. Now it seems to be Africa and various other locations that are well out of the price bracket of most shooters . I must admit I enjoy getting some quality meat for the freezer , and don't see the sporting challenge sat over a huge dead hippo with its mouth propped open with a stick so the guy in the photo can look proud as punch . Lets get back to some UK shooting , wether it be stalking , foxing ratting with an air rifle or bunny bashing with a rimmy. All the best Joe
All magazines, from Model Railway, Crotchet International etc. to Shooting Times make their money from advertising. The subscription paid/cover price does NOT cover the cost of the business.
Advertising is what fills the pages, just grow up and get used to what has been the normality in all Publications for the past quarter century. Business is business, it's what pays the mortgage.
Take what you can from the contributors articles. It's "the slag everything off" attitude that stops people contributing.
If you don't like any magazine then stop buying it. If you drag it down then we all end up with nothing.

BTW one doesnt get the prize over 42 others if not half good at ones job.

Sporting Rifle editor-in-chief Peter Carr has beaten a field of 42 international journalists to take home the Zeiss Sports Optics Journalist of the Year award.
The award was presented for his conservation work in Sporting Rifle, which has seen over £25,000 raised for the charity Save the Rhino over three years.
The funds have funded vital anti-poaching efforts at uMkhuze game reserve in South Africa and Big Game Parks in Swaziland.
Mr Carr, who also holds the editorship on Modern Gamekeeping magazines and a dual presenter-director role on The Shooting Show, said: “It was the first time in my life I have been lost for words, but I accepted this award on behalf of all of you who have supported this initiative, the other hunting journalists present, and the Blaze Publishing team, who have believed in this fundraiser from its outset. I sincerely cannot thank you enough.”
There used to be a great stalking magazine a few years ago, lots of real articles a few ads etc. can't remember the name.....maybe stalking magazine! Anyway, was well worth the read.
Harsh words my friend,I gave up on it a couple of years ago after a series of articles fawning over the catapult skills of a man who I knew to be a lifelong serial poacher/courser/thorn in the side of many keepers. Any mag. idolising a toe-rag like that wont get my cash!!
Not sporting rifle or the shooting show..... As someone else mentioned mr Carr may not have the presenting skills of some, but who would you rather front a shooting programme, someone who actually shoots ( paid, invited, sponsors jolly or whatever) or some tit with a media degree who has no connection to the sport whatsoever? And before anyone says it I have no connection to mr Carr, never even met the man. But as already said there is not much else on offer be it magazine or internet tv show, so make the most of it and pick the bones out of it that you are interested in reading/watching.My opinion of Zeiss has just taken a dive. It seems that they no longer care whom they support.
There is no advertising or product placement within any of the Grays Sporting Journal articles. Sports Afield manages to draw a very good balance. Rifle/Handloader are good for technical content. All magazines, from Model Railway, Crotchet International etc. to Shooting Times make their money from advertising. Sporting Rifle caters for an entirely different audience that is interested in the latest kit - but I'm not really part of it.
I'll be honest, I don't know the ins & outs of what has/hasn't been done over the years by this individual, but why hasn't someone just phoned the Police and had him taken him to court for fraud?
Seems like a Class Action (if that's possible against an individual?) would sort the problem out, given all the issues that seem to have stacked up...
