Still very dry even with the rain

Had a walk around one of the farms yesterday with my friend and farmer to try and get our shotguns some use on any ducks that may be hanging around the ditches and drainages. In his own admission, he hasn't shot in well over a year at least but is now starting to quieten down im trying to rekindle his joy for it. He said before we went that there didn't appear to be much about from what he had seen but was worth a look to see the boundaries and make some plans for the coming months. We have had a few rain spells over the last week or so and this farm has direct drainage from some ponds/pool (call them what you will) that are fed from the tide coming in and out.

What we couldn't believe was the ditches were full of cracks and bone dry and the ponds/pools had so little water that they were actually flourishing with plant life now. hopefully these will start to fill over the coming weeks again as at the start of the year there were ducks popping out of ditches left right and centre.

Any one else seeing similar? think we may hold off on the going out for ducks on this farm for a month or so, although they do also have the foreshore and salt marsh so that may get some use

We still had a great walk about and we can see a lot of potential for ducks in normal times so much so that he is thinking of feeding it as well
