Me too, a well known rifle smith told me he has seen too many bore snakes ruin barrels
Over the last 5 or 6 years a number of people on here have quoted that they were told by a rifle smith that he has made a fortune getting bore snakes out of barrels. I hadn't read that he reckons they ruin them as well.
The really strange thing is that everyone is always quoting the same rifle smith, one Callum Ferguson (spelling?) and that no other rifle smiths ever seem to chip in and say "same here". I really get the impression Mr. Ferguson has a slightly skewed view of bore snakes, and seems to be on a bit of a one-man crusade.

As a well known gunsmith once told me he loves boresnakes as they provide so many barrel replacements as business for him.
Straightforward 4x2 can be burnt out with some lighter fluid but you may find it more difficult with nylon. Take it to a gunsmith.
A round up the spout and pull the trigger might work, but then again !!!
Please don't say this even in jest, I am fearful that someone will read it and attempt it. Remember they walk among us!

If anyone damages a barrel crown with a BS i can only think they must be completely incompetent and need a simpler hobby. As for so many rifles needing re barreling because of stuck BS, that sounds likes BS about BS's
They certainly do John. I had to physically stop a guy from putting another round up the spout some years back when he had a squib load leave a .44 bullet up the barrel of his gallery rifle. I was the range officer and I sent him off the range.
If that happened (And it has) at our range, the duty officer would have stopped the guy/gal doing anything silly, then, taken them to one side and quietly educated the person. And they wouldn’t have had to leave the range.
I have seen a range officer try to humiliate a member once and it wasn’t nice.
Not saying you humiliated the guy, but, made to leave the range!
I’d like to know how many people have not made, or nearly made a mistake with a firearm.
Ken.
Had it happen to me, 3 days before going to croatia! the Hoppes snake didnt snap, it seemed to pull through ok, then the internals pulled tight once it passed the chamber, the outer woven part became slack, so the more i pulled the tighter it became, similar to what can happen with boot laces that separate! it was a nightmare! no cleaning rod would move it either! far to tight! i filled the barrel with nearly a full can of WD40 and left it to soak, i then went and wrapped the remaining end around the vice on my bench! and pulled the complete rifle! it came out! with some effort!
My advice? inspect the boresnake regulary, or just dont use one! be warned! i was lucky!
Kenbro the guy was insistent that it was his rifle and he was quite happy to take the chance. Well I wasn't prepared for him to "take the chance" and endanger others around him. It wasn't humiliating him and you can't educate pork. His membership of the club was terminated shortly after because of other incidents.
P.S. I've seen barrels on three Marlin rifles that have split as a result of poorly reloading and squib loads.
I hope that's a joke...?
That's just the sort of stupid remark we do not need on here. If the guy is a novice and new to stalking and firearms, just think what the repercussions would be if this occurred due to you making such a stupid remark.
It beggars belief sometimes!!
Hold on Malc, it wasn't me that made the stupid remarks....
Sorry yes I know I copied your response from the post about firing a rifle with a blocked barrel. My apologise if it appears I was refereeing to you which was not my intention.

Oddly enough, I recently overheard a very experienced ex military shooter discussing this very thing. Apparently he's had this happen several times with military pull throughs and the solution, that worked, was lighter fluid and ignition! This followed by a fairly intensive cleaning. Boresnakes might be messy though, as they're manmade material.

I wonder whether your well known gunsmith is the same as the well known rifle smith that rem284 quoted.
