This weeks Fieldsports Britian episode - Ballistic tips and head shooting

Just Unreal NO back stops. The roe shot is just madness could have move at any time. And a spine shot munty all in one show dont think I will bother again. And washing a carcase out I was under the instruction shouldn't apply water as you create a breeding ground for bacteria (heat and moisture)... and this is going out to every one to see its a disgrace and a embarrassment to truer stalkers. It seems to be all about naming there top kit. And as for that chap Oliver what a T**t.

I think it's all been said already!! but very poor stalking section on this weeks show as said, but the rest was as always very good!!! HME very nice set up well done to you sir.

Gents there is not much out there supporting our sport and i agree this stalking section did not help matters, but as HME said it has come on leaps and will need our support to keep going. So let's not slat the show just the 2 bone heads taking the shots, I am sure Charlie and David may understand our comments NOW when looking back on the show.

i hope no newbie stalkers watch that and think thats the right way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG OMG OMG

Well done HME you came accross very strongly.
But when you get "experts" on the telly getting VMax and B.Tips mixed up, what chance have i guessing what my clients have in their handloads?
Cameras DO play tricks with angles and backstops, but I cannot believe the shot on the doe?????????
Regards john.

I've just sent an email to David about the content of last nights show. Let's see what happens and if we can get them back on the straight and narrow. We shouldn't criticise the producers but the idiots who pay to put themselves on there. Sponsorship is what enables them to travel the country and film different operations such as mine but let's try to help and make sure they get what they want and we want whilst keeping the sponsors happy.

Many thanks. After our recent discussions that means a lot and I do understand where you come from even if I don't subscribe myself. I like the guys from FSTV, they are very genuine if naive and I feel there is an opportunity for those of us that can to help, I am certainly prepared to put some time in to this for nothing if it gets them away from kin' idiots like Preston, you up for a bit of that John?

I really despair at where 'Deer Management' in this country is going.

I've never seen such a load of tosh in all my life.

I do this stuff for a living and I can assure anyone that is in any doubt; that is not the way to do things.

If those are the kind of shots that get taken in front of the camera I dread to think what those guys get up to when no-ones looking?

Credit where its due HME, pleased someone was there to add something positive.
And thats all it was a discussion.
I have done a little telly and was lucky (like you) it went well, not sure I want to be making a habit of it.
Depends what you/they have in mind.

Haven't given it much thought yet as I'm too busy, but there has to be something that can be done to save us having to watch that unadulterated crap from Whatsisface! Just a thought.

Well I have to admit I know David and Oliver and don,t know why they took those shots, David shoots more foxes in a year than most people on this site see in a life time, as to his ability as a deer stalker when I took him stalking he would never have taken a shot like that.

watched it last night and in my humble opinion none of thoose shots were safe, as somebody stated would be a good thing to show on a DSC1 course.

Must say does show how a BT works, hence excellent for head and Neck shooting, can't say I have seen quite so dramatic effects, but then again it all depends on the bullet, gun and velocity.

As they say its easy to pull the trigger but you can't bring the bullet back.

I saw the program last night after reading a few posts and think on the face of it peoples concerns are justified. I would not have taken either shot personally but should we not give the presenters a chance to explain why they allowed it and for it to be shown.

The last Roe Doe I took just over a week ago was head shot at about 40m off sitcks. Had to wait some time as she browsed through the undergrowth and eventualy put her head up and kept it still long enough for the shot. Rising ground solid earth behind.

Not sure you can knock the program for advertising kite as its just the same for the mags and we are all interested in new stuff lets face it plus it pays for them to give us a show that up to now has been very entertaining if not tongue in cheek at times. Educational I question. As for the jet wash thing it was a bit of a gimmick and certainly should not have been used to clean out the carcase but under what pressure was the stalker to do this by the sponsor. We don’t know.

It struck me that neither of the two stalkers looked that comfortable examining the carcases and we didn't see how the head shot muntjac was taken. As we all know the camera never lies.... or does it. Looks like there is significant interest in this story as at time of my post there had been 1599 views and 35 replies. Would be nice to see a statement from FSTV.

Washing just blood out of a carcass with potable water is acceptable as it it not regarded as a contaminant. Excess blood gives bacteria somewhere to develop and is therefore not desirable. However, so does water, so it should only be done if the carcass can then be dried or the moisture allowed to evaporate.
What is not acceptable is the washing out of 'green' digestive tract contents, as it merely spreads the bacteria throughout the rest of the carcass.
I tried it on a muntjac where I'd clipped the rhumen. Despite looking fairly clean inside, after about 3 days in the chiller, the entire carcass was green and putrid! The water had spread the contamination throughout and especially around the bullet entry and exit holes. Not good practice!!!;)

Indeed not good practice in the field and washing from the rear end allowing water to run into the chest cavity? Did you see the carcass being dried in an appropriate manor? Think we can leave it at not best practice in the field. Every attempt should be made not to spread contamination weather you can see it or not.

It's all been said, but so so many things just appear wrong in that section of FSTV, and for the commentator to state blatant lies 'taking out all the vital organs' in a spine shot animal - who is he trying to kid? I for one would never employ the services of the English Safari Co. complete mavericks with disregard for the beasts they hunt, I mean, a 250m head shot on a munty, really...

I found all of it pretty shocking, not impressed!
