What would you guys do in this situation?

It would seem highly inadvisable to begin shooting and then run a Risk Assessment afterwards!

I've been shooting deer for over 40 years in that time I've used a unmodern thing called common sence. To me with every thing i do i'm constanly making a risk assessment. I work in the making of very heavy concrete things. I would not survive long if i did not use a bit of common. Unlike many i don't have to ask advice before i can wipe my arse.

Go out and take one, that will let the steam off, then get the head settled ,see what's about and have a bit of fun stalking for a good head, while you enjoy eating the one you have in the freezer. Nev

classic, sums up quite a few threads on here

as already said i would go out asap and drop one regaurdless of sex or head (obviously watching out for does with dependant young) just to get your rocks off and have some fun then a week later drop another skin it and butcher it and take the two back legs to the farmer as a thankyou express how gratfull you are and how much the meat means to you and your family then sit back and wait for your trophy buck as your third then at christmas ask the farmer would it be ok to take another for christmas and would the farmer like one for himself and see where it goes, youve got a golden opertunity sat in your lap

is this style of shooting covered in the dsc1? :stir::rofl:

I'd shoot a buck only . Let the does breed on and increase your numbers then the farmer may want more shot.

Actually mate you've done one every time you've taken a safe shot but as has been said before good old common sense prevails!!
Absolutely right, every shot carries it's own risk for one reason or another...
Before releasing the safety have a look around, make sure there are no walkers or farm workers about. You will already have made yourself aware of any livestock in fields so just a quick check that there's nothing that can obstruct the path of the bullet, decide whether you have a good enough backstop and go for it. We do most of this sub-contiously and it becomes second nature after a while. I don't ever feel the need to walk round carrying out a comprehensive survey and risk assessment. That is just my opinion though.

Until your comfortable identifying barren or only very heavily pregnant Does then stick to Bucks. One should always try to make sure a young one is not left to starve from being deprived of it's mum. That's the way I was taught with Muntjac.

Spot on advice from Brit there mate, I have some ground that has a similar approach insisted on by the landowner who likes to see them around, so I take my time, and generally just shoot anything that is nothing special, tend to leave the good bucks but now and again temptation takes over lol.
