What a car crash of a poll but some interesting and sensible comments arising from it nonetheless. Some questions/comments of my own as follows:
Are you happy with the lead ban and bascs handling / lack of consultation
Firstly, in your opening post to introduce your poll where did you get the "BASC thinks we're all happy" statement from? At best you have misunderstood one of my comments in another thread, at worst you deliberately made this up. Which is it? Your intro is misinformed and vexatious.
Secondly, the title of the thread is different to the title of the poll, which causes confusion.
Thirdly, you have combined several separate topics into one question with a binary yes/no outcome which is unfortunate and when challenged on this very early on by SD members after you published this poll you have not taken that on board as you could have quickly modified the poll to a simple yes/no on 'the lead ban' and left BASC out of it. Or focused on BASC and been clear what aspect of BASC's opposition to the HSE proposals you were referring to.
Or did you mean BASC's response to the lead restrictions decision by the government announced for 2029? Or something else?
What is the 'lack of consultation' you are on about? There was a call for evidence and two consultations during the 3 year HSE review. BASC pushed hard on these, including on this forum. Or are you possibly referring to the voluntary transition away from lead shot for live quarry encouraged by nine organisations which is a completely different topic. There are so many permutations to your poll it is unreal. And yet you have the audacity to tag me earlier in this thread pointing to the early results as some kind of immature 'ha ha I told you so' lesson. If anyone needs a lesson it is perhaps yourself needing some online courses on polling.
Finally, your inclusion of BASC for this poll is strange, not least from a self-proclaimed SGA member, given that the SGA has not stated anything about fighting the 'lead ban' so far as I can see. Perhaps you could clarify this?
BASC technical reports during the HSE review secured exemptions for lead airgun pellets and lead rifle ammunition for smaller calibres and BASC's response to the governments announcement was that it would be lobbying for .243 to be included in the smaller calibres exemption and a longer transition time.
Rather than directing your frustrations onto me/BASC on this forum perhaps ask your own organisation what they plan on doing about the 'lead ban'. Or perhaps start a new similarly nonsense poll entitled "Who’s happy with the lead ban and sgas handling of it?" Plenty of SGA members on here, should be an interesting result.
Most of the UK shooting organisations and several thousand shooters had input to the HSE review. Most of the EU hunting organisations and several hundred hunters had input to the ECHA review. Now its a matter of when not if various restrictions take effect in the British Isles and mainland Europe.
As regards the restrictions planned for England, Wales and Scotland for 2029, a Defra briefing and draft regulations are here:
