I know the old Parker Hales divide opinion but I really like this one:

Parker Hale 1200C .308 Rifle | Second Hand Guns for Sale | guntrader

Mauser action
Monte carlo comb (although I would prefer it without the slightly concave bit on the bolt handle side)
Rosewood grip cap
Nicely rounded rosewood fore-end tip (not the angled forward one)
Safety in the right place and the triangle shaped one (not the lower type)
Walnut with a pleasant bit of figure to the grain. Not too fancy, not too plain.
The right chequering pattern not the skip line stuff.

It's not perfect, I would probably not have the white lines on the grip cap, fore-end and recoil pad but it is very nice. I'd like to have an M84 with the english shape stock as well, then I'd have both kinds of stock I like on these.

I think partly because there are a lot of them here they aren't very highly valued. It may be because I shot a few of them when I was young that I like the look of them. They are good looking rifles to me.

Hi Angus

Thank you for confirming.
I did wonder as I still have mine from that era, made 'mine' with a 3-position safety and better trigger unit (Mike Tierney (RIP))!

I had one in .270 when with the FC in the early 90s, given how many rounds it had through it, it was a cracking rifle and very pretty.

Just a shame mods weren't legal then as I wouldn't wear two hearing aids the now...

Lovely. I agree with you on the white lines. I can't help thinking the deer will see the rifle being raised. I colour it in with permanent brown marker pen - for the purists, this does come off over time or with some light sanding!

It's little things like the chequering that goes under the fore-end and the colt's foot shape of the bottom of the grip that make me like them a bit more than a lot of modern rifles.

There are a few features you don't see often on that rifle, and an uncommon chambering too. The fore-end looks quite slim and not too long. How does it shoot? What bullets does it like?

I agree

I mostly agree, although the grip cap is too exaggerated - it’s curling forward much too much. It should be a small almost flat cap.

And white line spacers really are frightful, I really struggle to see past them. I must remove them from my Mauser 4000...

I quite like the grip cap on this one, it sits somewhere between a flat end to the pistol grip and the more pronounced pointed type like on the Heym SR20s. I find the styling of the Heym rifles a bit full-on but I've not held or shot one so it could be that they're very comfortable, and I know a lot of people love them for their build quality. On the M81 the grip cap is less like that and they look spot on to me.

I use a PH Safari for foxing and the wood on it is bloody lovely. Cracking little rifle & still very accurate if I do my bit.
