Lot of moaning going on on the AH forum about an apparent change to vaccine policy in SA

Vaccine cert now required to have a QR code

If correct, our flimsy little card with vaccine dates are unlikely to pass muster

I know nothing more, or even if it is correct, but worth investigation?

You just need to download your covid pass on the NHS app and have a printed copy and that works perfectly. Went 2 weeks ago and the just do a visual check with your name against your passport.

How do South Africa border officials access the NHS system with a QR code...... by possibly ‘contacting the embassy or high commission of the relevant country’. I can see bribes on the horizon.

Absolute nonsense. They now let you in with an antigen test as long as you quarantine for ten days IF you have symptoms. But the UK Gov website says neither PCR or Vaccine cert required.

Safair does. I was there in June. I go every year and usually book by international flight separately from the internal.

I found BA a pain to book the rifles in with but apart from that, extremely helpful compared to SAA.

I was prepared to be charged for the ammunition box but not even a mention. In fact the whole experience in Heathrow terminal 5 was pretty impressive, I checked in both luggage and firearms, cleared customs and was set having a bear within an 1 1/2 hours, a record.

Fly Safair were also obliging and have the advantage of being able to book the rifles on line with the ticket booking.

The experience in Jo’burg was also remarkable, no longer does one sign the courier’s register in the baggage reclaim area, the firearms go straight to SAP. Presented all the documents with copies at SAP and was issued a permit within 1/2 hour, what’s more, not even an inclining of additional charges 😳. Once permit was in hand, signed the courier’s register and marched off to book in with Fly Safair.

The return journey was also equally hassle free.

Totally agree with this. Just back from RSA. It was the first time travelling with guns. Virgin Atlantic were great, no problems with them at check in at LHR or at OR Tambo on the return leg. Just some paperwork and then a wait for the courier to take the cases through to Border force, check serial numbers and that was that. Much easier than expected and I didn't pay anything extra for carriage either

Yes we would do the same if the Airlink connection to Mozambique worked. Sadly we have to go BA to catch the Pemba flight

Another vote for Virgin when carrying firearm, no extra charges and simple process, I have used them a number of times
