SAA not carrying firearms anymore.

Totally agree with this. Just back from RSA. It was the first time travelling with guns. Virgin Atlantic were great, no problems with them at check in at LHR or at OR Tambo on the return leg. Just some paperwork and then a wait for the courier to take the cases through to Border force, check serial numbers and that was that. Much easier than expected and I didn't pay anything extra for carriage either
what did the flight/s cost mate if you dont mind me asking.

Mine in May was £880
Going next week same price and same again in May always use dialaflight they stick on a few quid obviously but service is second to none

Virgin Business class has gone from £2,500 last November for this March, to over £5,000 for next March.
Bloody Awful is £3,500 for next March.
Any experiences with BA ?

Old thread but looking at Africa flights ( too many recent threads on Africa) seems SAA are carrying firearms again ? Looking at BA the Joburg to PE flight is with SAA , some quite reasonable prices for next Jan !

Be aware B.A. will pull your pants down with the charge for firearms and ammo. We are off to Namibia with Ethiopian next month no charge for carrying firearms.

Went to SA in November on BA. Thoroughly unpleasant flights (Premium Economy). Complained and got a load of Air Miles as compensation, but it’s put me off BA so much I don’t see myself using them.
Looking at Namibia next year, so no doubt I’ll be going back through this thread when I start looking for flights.

Used once to go to Zimbabwe, and onto Vic Falls. Bloody hopeless, lost two gun cases at Jo'burgh airport, left them on the runway!! Got both back on the next air Zim flight into Vic Falls, but not impressed. Also misplaced my gun case at the airport on a return flight from Finland, took about 2 hours to find it. Soon changed their minds when I threatened to dial 999 on my mobile and report them as being lost in a major airport by BA.

Using any airline these days to carry firearms, is a nightmare at the best of times, let alone some of the staff at the airport itself.

I’ll probably use a hire rifle but apple airtags will definitely be going on the cases if I take them.

Have heard of folk offering to help with the permits and meet you at the airport. Think there’s an element of queue skip involved as well which might save a lot of hassle. Anyone used them?
