6XC - will give velocities that equal to or better th 243 using less powder due to a better case design and its ability to handle pressure . If you're planning on doing a lot of plinking , the expected accurate barrel life is around double the 243 and around a 1/3 more than the CM . David Tubb claims 20 plus firings using Norma brass .
There's plenty of others to choose from but the XC , for me at least , is the perfect compromise in performance, barrel life and time spent at the reloading bench . Essentially, everything the 243 should be .
Before you make your final decision, probably best to research and do some homework on your shortlist .

7 twist will stabilise easily non lead

Works admirably in my own XC with 115 DTacs

There wouldn’t be an issue with 100 g non lead with this twist

The other option of course is get a gain twist starting at 10 finishing at 6-6.5 but as there are not any commercially availble non lead bullets over 100 g other than those made by small scale prototypes that’s pretty semantic

To be honest I don't need it to be running 100gr non toxics. I have my 6.5CM for the Reds.

Yes exactly why I asked the masses on here. Looking to see what the general recommendation was and delve in deeper from there. The XC seems to be in favour just now

I spent a long time researching before committing , you either gain velocity at the cost of barrel life or lose velocity to gain barrel life . I also considered brass availability , brass life , the amount of work forming brass and time at the reloading bench needed .
The XC was a clear winner , if it had had Hornady's marketing team behind it , it would be a lot more popular I'm sure.

Fast twist .243 as many have said Colin!! I have one in a 1-7.5” and it’s a definite yes shooting 108grn eldm right out to 1000 yards wind depending

I have had a 243 for 25 years. It just shoots well and ammo is everywhere. I keep thinking I might rebarrel at some point. And rather than messing with variation just go faster twist. But it shoots the Peregrine VRG3 100gn very well out to distances I am comfortable with, so rebarrel not needed.

A falling block or kipplauf in the 6x74R would be fun though.

6mm rem AI gives me accurate flat shooting.
My only regret is not getting a faster twist.
Reloading is a must

6mmbr will feed from AI AW magazines with a kit from sporting services and MDT produce 6mmbr AICS magazines.

I love the 6mmbr and had my Sako 85 been compatible with either , I would have gone that way.

6BR, 243, 6XC and, although I hate to say it, probably 6CM

I have a 25-06 and that is a bit overbore, can’t imagine it with a 6mm bullet.

At 3100 fps the ME of a 105 grain bullet is about 2240 ft. lbs. The 200 yard figures are 2663 fps and 1653 ft. lbs. The trajectory of that load looks like this: +1.5" at 100 yards, +2.3" at 200 yards, 0 at 258 yards, and -3" at 305 yards.

Ok guys

I'm think I'm going to go down the 6XC route.

Reasoning being, brass and factory ammo is pretty readily available, and I have also been offered the use of a reamer to have a barrel of my choosing chambered.

It also appears to be quite an economical round to shoot.

So thanks all for the input.

Time to start searching for an action now.

Some time ago I had a 6mm06ai, otherwise known as a 6mm Terminator. It was absolutely fantastic for the 800 rounds the barrel lasted for

Now running 6XC which is still very good but should last a good bit longer.

I have a 6 mm br, 6 x 47 and a 6.5 x 47. I use my 6 mm br for high seat work, my go to stalking rifle is the 6 x 47 and occasionally use the 6.5 x 47 when its windy
