Is the .270 the ultimate unfashionable all rounder...

Totally anecdotal I will admit, but I’ve not found a better cartridge for ‘bang flop’ than the 270. I sold mine but am currently trying to rectify that.
.300 Magnum ;)

More Energy and more frontal area - if you don’t want a deer to go anywhere then this is the answer (providing you can shoot it as accurately).

Well indeed, and I should have caveated that is comparing it with 30-06, 308, 6.5CM and 243 from the top of my head, so perhaps the best bang flop of ‘standard’ cartridges. For once in my life though I decided on brevity 😂!

I mean it’s obviously good, but it’s no .30-06 is it.
Less knock down
Less penetration
Less frontal area
Almost the same recoil
Same action length
Less choice of bullet weights
Deer or any other game won’t stand up to either

Less recoil
Higher velocity
Flatter trajectory
Nicer noise
More impressive jet of flame at last light.
You can turn a .30-06 into a .270 with bullets under 150grn, you can’t turn a .270 into a .30-06.
But I am glad you like yours, I always regret not buying the sako trg .270 that was on here a while ago!

After several months of weighing up which calibre to go with I bought a brand new tikka T3 in .270. Very happy with it too.

Factory twist well suited to the copper bullets, hence it became favoured when the copper thing surfaced.
112.5 Yew Tree doing 3300+ out of a 22", 110TTSX much n such before.

Also I still feel like plenty of new .270s get sold there's a vast sea of shooters that dont want the pain of dealing with a buying a gun and not being well aware of common issues found with models/calibres.

Sometimes brand new is nicer in your mind too.

Gun shops probably wouldn't have them on-hand available too purchase If they werent popular enough most of the niche calibres are order-in (as far as I'm aware?)

Wonder how long before we see the .270 bullet put in a shorter fatter case and re-badged as , say, 6.8 x 43 or a 6.8 SPC ? Wonder if they'll call it the 6.8 NATO Creedmoor ? :-|
