Hard to disagree with this.i'd have 2 6.5 creedmoors , oh wait i already do !
It wouldn’t make small deer legal in 158 gr, especially as most loads are pistol loads as opposed to rifle loads, but even then 158 gr bullets eat up too much powder space.
Yes, it would undoubtedly kill anything we have here in the UK. The laws are quite daft but we have to work with them.Yeah, doubt it would be fast enough to be UK legal, I only really meant it wouldn't struggle to kill a deer at sensible ranges even with bog-standard ammo.
Thankfully I am not covered by the deer act(s) here in PA (well intended though they may be). I would far rather a 357 than a 223 or even 243.
Obviously everyone needs to obey the law, even those whose letter sometimes contradicts their own spirit. And I get it, if you set some rules they have to be easy enough to follow, even if they can create some nonsense situations. E.g. a solid from a 470 NE would make a bigger permanent wound channel through a roe than a 223 ever could, yet it would be illegal. A 200 or 215 grain bullet from a 303 would be better against a big red stag than a 100 grain from a 243, but would similarly be illegal in Scotland.
Anyway, all of which is to say, 357 is my ideal "small deer" rifle, and I really need to get one!
Welcome to the SD. I note you joined in 2017 but recognise it may have escaped you etc. Just the first page from a 5 second search on here limited to this area of the forum. Errr, not hard at all unless everything is judged by mediocrity being the gold standard. The Creedmoor is kind of the Kardashian’s of rifle calibres!Hard to disagree with this.

Given...www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk

Preferred Calibre.
Good afternoon all. As an up coming new stalker looking to shoot predominantly roe, with the potential for sika in the west and red up north with friends, my personal choice for compatibility has been to opt for .308win. I know it all comes down to personal preference but what is the...www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk

What calibre ?
Just looking for people’s views on caliber for variation. I’d like to get into target shooting in the coming year but ….. Would also like a calibre of rifle to spit some heavier bullets for large stags etc. It’s not everyday I’d require this for deer but would like the rifle to overlap as I...www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk

Yes why not, what calibre takes your fancy?
After more than 100 years, elite British gun maker John Rigby & Co has brought the boxlock rifle back into its range in the form of a side-by-side called Shikari that duplicates the origin design of the 1890s. Each Shikari is hand made on order, customised for fit and taste for the buyer, and...www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk

What Rifle Calibre to Add or Change
I know this has probably been done to death, but I am putting in my renewal in January and was thinking of adding another calibre as either a swap or addional rifle. I currently use a 223 for foxing and other vermin control, alongside a 22LR and 17HMR. I also have a 243 as a stalking rifle...www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk

Which calibre to change too?
So at the moment I’m shooting a 243 with 100g Sierra prohunters. Most of my stalking is muntjac and roe, but once a year I shoot red hinds in Scotland. Nothing I shoot in England goes into the game dealer so I’m still using lead. The reds in Scotland will need to be shot with copper. If I’m...www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk

First Deer Calibre Rifle
Hi I am putting in for my first deer legal calibre. I was thinking of going 308 or maybe even 270 but then I see plenty of posts about 6.5CM.... Is there a better one to pick with the incoming lead ban? I tried to search but it returns almost every thread on here. I have no experience of any...www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk
No - it’s more the Ford Focus!Errr, not hard at all unless everything is judged by mediocrity being the gold standard. The Creedmoor is kind of the Kardashian’s of rifle calibres!
To be fair, we only had ‘what 3 calibres’ a few weeks ago…..Thankyou for your input. Thankfully I am fully aware of this. If you don’t like this post as you well know you could easily find another post you would be interested in reading by using the search bar at the top right of your screen. Just out of curiosity are actively asking for people to not post in this forum? I haven’t asked this question before and the people that have answered the question may have never seen this type of question on here before that’s why they have answered.
Are you making 1000 ft-lb with a 12” barrel? Mines a 20 and I’m getting 1250 ft-lb with a 110 gr, looking at the data 125 gr is optimum for power.
That’s good to know as I may swap out for a 16” marlin when funds allow.Gets there with a 110gr and plenty of N110, but I'm still around 200fps down on you.
Same as mine but of course N110. Not taken deer with it mind, works well on foxes thoughThat’s good to know as I may swap out for a 16” marlin when funds allow.
My load is H110 under a 110 sierra HP.
I would have thought the 308 would have been the mundane Everyman… I would make a case for the Kardashians being valid as they were the in thing a few years ago but are not in the press quite as much these days as everyone is a bit fed up with them. Now the 6.5PRC, that must be the “Hawk tuar “ girl!!No - it’s more the Ford Focus!
Or, if we’re using celebrities as the metaphor, I’d say something like Tom Hanks. Mild mannered Everyman.
Agreed .308 is the Tom Hanks of cartridges.I would have thought the 308 would have been the mundane Everyman… I would make a case for the Kardashians being valid as they were the in thing a few years ago but are not in the press quite as much these days as everyone is a bit fed up with them. No, this is important to get rightAgreed .308 is the Tom Hanks of cartridges.
So… let’s nail the metaphor down. Creedmoor is effectively a flashy repackaging of a venerable stalwart (6.5x55), with a lot of marketing behind it. But which is, underneath it all, a perfectly adequate, quite versatile multi purpose round. I think where the Kardashian metaphor breaks is that they actually have nothing at all behind the marketing. Whereas the Creedmoor is a perfectly functional cartridge, if rather dull.
So you’re looking for a young celeb who burst on the scene to great fanfare, but turns out to be just another iteration of an established pattern. Perfectly workable journeyman actor who appeals to everyone from angry teens to your gran. Tom Holland seems like a good option.
And yes - I’m ‘on holiday’ with the family and bored to tears.
