Import duties from Germany

No I will not. Brexit has done huge damage to our economy and only by fixing the damage do we have any chance of rebuilding the country.

Yes there was the Pandemic and Ukraine, but only Britain has had the effect of Brexit as well.

Yes it has hit import costs, but ALL the VAT now stays in the U.K. Do you really think even if a better deal could now be done that suddenly prices would come back down?

In the past VAT pretty much netted itself off between the countries via VAT returns from companies that traded across the EU. Now it is just a mess and many consumers will up paying VAT in both country of sale and as the goods come in across the Border. And it goes both ways.

I would much rather have the ability to easily trade across Europe than see a huge number jobs going to the EU as British companies set up Euro hubs to do European business. It is a very simple choice. Be in a market of 27 countries, 300 million plus people and world wide trading across the rest of the world. Or just be in the UK market.

You'll get charged a percentage of your £1000 in duty, you'll need to find out what that percentage is depending upon what the goods are as they are all different, then your 20% VAT on top of that.

So £1000 + duty% + 20%.
There’ll be a currency transaction fee plus a customs handling charge too..

Usually get import duty, VAT, export licence and handling fee

I bring in a few barrels a year from Lothar Walther
AFAIK barrel blanks should not require export license from Germany. There might be different views on what makes barrel blank into a barrel.

That's got nothing to do with Brexit, customs have always been a complete pain in the arse when importing things, and an incompetent pain in the arse at that.
Nonsense. Buying from Europe before Brexit was plain sailing. I had stuff cone from all over with no issues. Now it's not worth the candle, and most of the European seller don't want to know anyway.

Don’t Bash Brexiteers for govt incompetence. It wasn’t the government giving its money to the Eu it was giving our money! The government doesn’t have any money of its own it exists by milking and bilking the taxpayers!

If you have a vat registered company then order via the company for anything from the EU. If the exporter has the product country of origin within the EU and has a valid REX number then regardless of value it can be classed as preferential origin and 0 duty. Also use postponed vat accounting and technically you never pay the vat.
If the product isnt for the buissness isnt that vat avoidance/fraud?

And you may also get charged storage fees by UK customs if whoever filed in the customs declaration used the wrong colour ink and it gets put in the do it tomorrow pile and is there for six months.

Don’t forget the Brexiteers view that this is democracy at work.
Still not over it buttercup ? Can you tell me who voted for us to be in the EU in its current format and exactly how democratic and accountable that organisation is ???

Quantify the huge damage… You expect it all to be immediate plain sailing after divorcing us from a trading bloc of which we were hoodwinked into being members of for 40 odd years?

If you don't want immigration hassle when traveling to and from France, get a rubber dinghy.
