Home office consultation on deregulating sound moderators

The most recent legislative update from the Historical Breechloading Smallarms Association (HBSA) suggests that the deregulation was "very nearly over the line" prior to the calling of the general election.

If so, seems the scut work was mostly done and should be relatively easy for the Home Office to pick it up and see it through, if sufficiently prodded...

Unlikely to progress now following the tons of pics of an assassin shooting some guy in the back with a moderated firearm
The fact it was a Rosco is incidental !

Every silver lining has a cloud…. If they are taken off ticket it is likely to become harder to travel abroad with a sound moderator as they will not appear on the FAC
I believe @Border has this issue as Norway has deregulated moderators and he cannot provide any paperwork for most of the countries that still require it (at least he may be able to come here! 😅)

Just to reiterate that BASC has pressed the Home Office to continue what the last government started and take sound moderators out of the licensing system and we have been told by civil servants that this is still on the agenda, and we will continue to press.

If they do come off ticket, the government could claim to have reduced firearms numbers by what, 30-odd percent? Amazed it's taken them so long.

I never understood why they require a license. They are not a firearm as described in law and don't constitute any threat to the public or more importantly to them in office!
Bizzarly you can have a moderated shotgun no questions asked.
Most liaison officers loath having to list them that I have spoken too.

I got given a moddly slot for every S1 rifle I was asking for. The FEO said it was a waste of time processing mod variations and just to ask for them from the get go and they're basically just metal tubes. So, I now have more slots than I need, but at least I don't need any variations for them, but I do still have to work with the ridiculous distance selling limitations.
