Kipplauf recommendations

I can no longer resist the urge to treat myself to a single shot, break barrel rifle. I’m a sucker for nice wood and engraving, so don’t want polymer or carbon fibre stock or plain black action. I’ve been looking at a Krieghoff Hubertus but would love to hear your experienced opinions. I’m edging towards 30R Blaser or 7x64 as I want it to be able to reassuringly knock down anything in Europe and possibly plains game. I’ll have a budget up to 10k but expect a couple of those, at least, to go on scope

Any thoughts?
 
7x65r is a very good round for a single shot and will do anything you need in Europe / Africa.

30R Blaser is on a par with the 300 Win Mag and its a bit too much for a lightweight kipplauf type rifle. I have used a 300 Win Mag K95 and a Blaser Bd14 in 30 R Blaser. Both were not pleasant to shoot at all and doubt the extra power would make any difference to end effect on big animals, but would probably lead to a flinch.

A few years ago I was looking for a Kipplauf & the Krieghoff was a contender, one which impressed me; the only reservation I had was that the standard stock has more drop than I like for scope use.

In the end I fancied a rifle built using the Jaeger tilting block system & I don’t regret the decision in getting such. That said, if I was to add second Kipplauf to the cabinet I’d probably ring the changes & look at a Krieghoff again.

It’s the 7x65R that the Hubertus is chambered in rather than the 7x64. The Hubertus with steel action isn’t a particularly lightweight rifle once a scope is on (well not so by proper stalking rifle standards) therefore I’d not hesitate to try the 7x65R.

As you mention - I too would have a Scheiring if the pocket allowed.

I had a very close look at these a few years ago at the Jagd & Hund 2019. The designer also did the K95, but the Prinz was how he wanted it to be, not once the accountants got hold of one. They are beautifully built and feel crafted out of solid steel and wood. The Blaser K95 definitely feels as its made from lots of CNC parts all put together with Torx screws.

I would definitely have a look at these Prinz. They were definitely in the OP budget. The basic one was about €7,000 in 2019.

I had a look on their website, but without UK importers, it could be a hassle
 
I love my K95 in 7 x 57R. Mine is a stutzen, which prevents a mod being used, but it's fine. Break action rifle MUST have a rimmed cartridge ;)

I don't know what stocks they're offering at the moment, I have the hog back, but would definitely go with a straight combe, because the HB is too low to use with a scope, and I have to use a raiser pad.

Whatever you choose, I'm sure you'll love it.
