The demise of lead shot...

The Dane’s have had lead shot banned for 20 years and say folk still turn up to shoots with lead they found at the back of the cupboard!

Some considerations,

1) Tungsten dust when sewn into the skin of a rat caused cancerous tumours 💯 of the time

2) Kent cartridges the owner of gamebore manufacture bismuth shot in Hull England, ship it to America and sell the Bismuth waterfowl cartridges the same price as high performance steel cartridges!

Where do you get your information.
The ban on lead shot has been in place for 29 years and was phased in over a few years prior to that. With no lead shot was being sold in the later phases of the transition. So any lead ammunition that people have in the back of their cupboards is at least that old. Would you want to use 30 year old ammo?
It is possible that very occasionally someone finds some old lead cartridges but I have not seen any in the time I have been here. If I caught someone deliberately using lead shot on one of our shoots they would be sent home immediately and reported to the other board members with a view to expelling them from the association. I will not risk my shooting or the rest of the association members for one individual who wants to save himself a few Kr.

Out of interest I am going to try and ask members what cartridges they are using. I have a feeling that many of the new younger members coming into the association are actively choosing biowad ammo. So I'm going to try and find out.

Yes, no problem, send it to me.
I do an old ammunition disposal service.
It's free (just the postage you pay).

I'd rather shoot by myself than being scrutinized by my peers.
It's a form of communism.
You are welcome to them if you come and collect, the paperwork to export and import will be doen to you.

It is a form of fellowship, nothing to do with communism. We shoot on public land and if we do not adhere to the law we will lose that opportunity. It's fine that you wouldn't want to be a part of it but those that do must adhere to the rules or they don't get to shoot. Simple as that. I am also not their peer, when I am hunt leader I have a legal responsibility.

The guys I shoot with! they never shot lead it had been banned so long, they shot it with me when in the UK though 👊

I also shoot lead in the UK because the clay shoot I go to is fibre wads only. But you seemed to be saying they were using 30 year old ammo in DK.

Why not steel?
If everyone were to start shooting with plastic wads in this country, well...the ensuing litter...that would do much more harm to the future of shooting than lead shot currently does.

I find it slightly odd that your principles as to what type of shot is acceptable to use vary with geography, but I suppose it's no more eccentric than much else we've been expected to accept on this matter.

So what’s the prognosis for .410g and 20g slugs ?
I couldn’t find any factory alternatives for the 20g and will look at the availability of 10mm pistol non-lead heads to load for the .410g.

I have in the past used Sellier & Bellot brass 12 bore slugs. In 12 bore. They are a brass "bullet" moulded into a plastic sabot in effect. Similar could be done with a non-lead slug in a plastic sabot in these smaller gauges if there were a market for it. Indeed there could even be the start of a small "man in a shed" business. The sabots could be injection moulded and the slugs machined on CNC and the pressed in on a swaging press. The mould for the sabot should be cheap enough but as will all plastics the setting up for a run would maybe be costly? And would the end product be accurate and...also relevant...have better ballistic properties than a half brick has?

I don't as a rule answer you, but I'll take a moment here. Did you actually read my post? as my moral standpoint is the same but in two different situations
1. The law in Denmark says I must use non-lead ammunition. That means anyone using lead ammunition on one of our hunts is breaking the law and jeopardising our club.
2. The rules of my old clay shooting club stipulate, fibre wads only. That is because it is a SSSI and risks getting shut down if people use plastic wads.

So you can clearly see that my principles are exactly the same in both situations and do not vary with geography whatsoever.

I hope this has cleared up your error.

Just to be clear, I have not said I support a lead ban.

My experience of steel shot bio wad cartridges has been mixed. Eley have been great as where hull. However bio ammo jammed up my auto as it pulled the brass off the case jamming the barrel. Was fine in an over under.

I didn't think much of them myself and though my 410 was better?
