The unbought rifle

Can’t be the only one who does this? Sees a nice rifle online. Tell myself I don’t need it because of whatever reason be it - current cal already does the job / just an extra scope / just extra cabinet space. Then feel a slight regret when it’s no longer listed for sale.

Somewhere deep down, I know I didn’t need it but a new cal or a different set up does seem to add a new dimension to the day

I am at the opposite end with shotguns. Too many. So in the past couple of months I have given three away. Two 410, Ward Patent single barreled folders have gone to good friends who have daughters wanting to learn to shoot. The other is my first AYA Yeoman that I bought when I was 16 - gone to another friend who is just starting shooting.

Given on the basis that they will be used and if and when they are no longer needed they come back to me.

I’ve got the same itch about my car. Currently a Passat a few years old in very good condition. The itch is for an Audi A4 9.5 model. There are a few I can afford, but the cost of read tax (2023 model on) is going to stop me ….//

Mines currently a ktm 525 supermoto I'm eyeing up but won't buy... ill kick myself when its gone though!

You're only here once. If you can afford something and you have a yearning for it, then go for it! So long as it doesn't make you destitute. When you've had it for a bit you can always sell it on and get back most the dosh.
I can buy things very easily, and I don’t need lessons in selling stuff on….but I do need lessons in selling and getting MOST of the dish back!

Least I’m not the only one. The blaseritis is also real..

For some reason, the second hand gun market is always really poor despite plenty of us always on the lookout for the next new toy

I’ve been there for a while, same excuses as you, but recently decided it was time so I’ve just got added to my FAC .22RF semi auto for target and vermin, .44 magnum lever action for target and deer, 6.5 Creedmoor for long range target and deer, .17 centrefire for fox and vermin.

This adds to my .223, 6mm Remington and .308.

That will probably be me now at least for the time being!

I think about something for a while, say archery equipment or thermal imagers or something that I don’t really want yet. I’ll have a cursory look at them on eBay or wherever and find that there’s loads of them for decent prices. Then I’ll go away and research, decide what I want and come back a week or two later and there’s hardly any available and they’re all twice the price! Never knew they were a bargain previously and I should have jumped on them!

It happens the other way too. I recently jumped on a night vision scope because it was a third of the price I’d ever seen them before. Only after buying it did I realise that that’s just what they cost now and I had all the time in the world to buy one that would have suited me better. So annoying.

I was watching a Sako rifle recently that had a beautiful stock on it. No idea what I was going to do with it but I desperately wanted it.
