45-70

De Haas autographed my copies. Cover got lost but the rest is intact. I think his obituary is folded up and stuck in the blueprint book.~Muir

I've never seen a Kropatchek conversion in the flesh , but apparently , they worked quite well . I remember talking to you about Frank DeHaas , he was quite the gunsmith .
The Werndl has always interested me , unfortunately , Unicorn poo these days .

I ran into two of them in a gun shop in Stillwater, OK, back in the fall of 1980. I was in the shop to pick up y Cobray Mac-10 so I paid them little heed. Never saw another..~Muir

Got nice Rossi Rio grande 45/70 for sale but it will not let me post its in the sales side, its about 10 year old but only had 600 rounds from new.
Well! When you have been here long enough you can post on the Classified side telling what you have and entertaining offers. Good show not succumbing to the temptation of sliding it into some existing thread. ~Muir

Update...45-70 is a no go for me unfortunately :( after meeting with my local firearms officer he explained that there was no land that he knew of in Staffordshire passed for .45 calibre. I could get one but it would be strictly for us at a club only. For the rifle I wanted its alot of money for it to only come out at a club range.

has he read the home office guidance? See attached table, taken from the home office guidance. Itis in the same table as other commonly used deer legal calibers......

The 45-70 is slow, drops fast, it tends to impart all its energy to the deer. They need to go out and clear land for for 45-70 then, and while they are at it, ask how land cleared for a 45/70 looks different to that cleared for a 30-06. if he is that concerned maybe o land should be cleared for any rifles at all n Staffordshire. Seems like a complete lack of understanding from the feo.

Mentioned all that to him...he even suggested I go for a 308 or a 30 06! He totally understood where i was coming from but said that the issues lies further up the chain in the administration side of things. 30 cal is alot more acceptable than 45 apparently

Tell him your shooting organisation has asked for the refusal in writing (push him to refuse it I doubt it’ll happen and if it dies you get your fee back I believe.

I have been stone walled by staffs often. Took me 25years to get 357 for fox!
They still won't budge on muzzleloading rifle to hunt small game either.
I think they have to turn so many down to keep chief plod happy.
Logic has nothing to do with it and Staffordshire will be so much safer now

my mate in staffs wanted a 300 win mag, staffs refused said he needed to book a safari for such a big rifle, he has loada of land with big reds and ground in scotland, they even suggested no one has a win mag just for uk deer

It's good that the uk has such strickt gun control but as an FAC holder with an open ticket you've already had to jump through numerous hoops and checks. You know what's safe and what's not.

No chance of getting my fee back, I put in for a 6.5 at the same time and that flew through

Yeah so let's get this straight. A 6.5 elevated around 45° and loosed will cover possibly five miles. A 45/70 possibly shorter but hey 140gn bouncing on yer head is way better than 400gn

Totally illogical I know! Put simply a .45 is a smaller caliber than 6.5. Ballistics are totally irrelevant to the person sat behind the desk
