BASC calls for independent regulatory body for firearms licensing

If I am at self-important then please answer me this l, how come I have given away a day stalking for seven ladies of the ladies deerstalking group worth in monetary value over £2k, for the princely sum of nothing not £1 totally FOC with no limits on what is shot!

I don’t see you lot giving, bugger all away for nothing, to help others in the stalking community, all I tend to hear, and Read is a load of bitching and whingeing!

Yeah I’m so selfish, just because I don’t see things the way you lot do but does not mean I am against it in any way, shape or form!
Some of us don't go around boasting about what we do for people like you. I regularly take out ex service men for H4H and lots of people on here have been out with me for free and shot deer. Your boasting about what you do makes you sound even more self important. You must be a legend in your own mind.

Nope not at all, i just think differently and i also think that when the firearms licensing house is rebuilt, I think there is going to be an awful lot of shocks coming!

You lot can cling onto 100 year old guidance as much as you like.

Thats me done!

BASC's proposal is about setting up an independent regulatory body to oversee the firearms licensing function
I think BASC are being a bit nieve, suggesting such a thing, when the country is in such a financial crisis.

No political party be they a friend of shooting or not , is going to commit more public funding for such an organisation at a time when there's such unrest with public sector workers.

Instead of thinking up somec blue-sky utopia, I'd suggest BASC should:
1. accept the current process can work effectively ( there are 3 post on here saying Cheshire, Notts, Derbyshire are working well).

2. Find out which constabulary are under performing and why.

3. Work with the Crime Commissioner for those forces, to help them improve

.4. Publish a league table good, bad the ugly.

Hitler said the same thing that he just thought differently, didn't make him right either.

Didn't think it would be long until stalker the stalker poked his nose in.
It's an open forum old fruit - with over 170 posts (or people 'poking ' their noses in).

If you are going to post contradictory statements, don't complain when you get called out on it.

Didn't realise you were calling me out. Sorry I thought you were just being a childish idiot like in the majority of the rubbish you post. In case you don't like any of my posts in the future I will use joined up writing then you won't be able to read them.

Jumping into this thread, I think the prospect of a 10-year licence is pie in the sky thinking.

There’s much less risky licences that are only issued for 1-3 years (taxi vehicle, street trading, dog boarding etc) to enable full and thorough assessments of the suitability at each renewal - yet alone one where there is evidence and serious justification that perhaps those tests should be performed more often (and more thoroughly).

We’re more likely to end up with annual renewals than 10 year renewals!

That would be fine, but only if it was accompanied by a 14 day SLA on the FLM, subject to the applicant getting it in on time; and in the case of any SLA breach by the authority (FLM), the existing certificate is extended by default.

Highly unlikely though.

Interesting why FAC's came out in the first place but not shotgun certs, just a gun licence.
I don't suppose it was anything to do with the Russian Revolution and the government being s..t scared that so many men coming back from WW1 and having nothing might induce them to put to good use their knowledge of firearms.
Shooting is not a luxury it is a way of life which I have been involved with from the age of 12 shotgun wise and 17 rifle wise. I have used a rifle in earnest at one time but before and since then to provide food for the family. It is my right to have the necessary implements to do so as the reason is good and it in my book is not a privilege. There is no longer any reason for our government to fear armed insurrection, so once a good reason is given it should be a simple process to issue a simple document, without all the unnecessary visits, certifying land, moderators on ticket or any other claptrap.
The police should put more time in jumping on illegal weapons rather than making legal holders jump through hoops.

totally agree but unfortunately they know who we are and we just ask how high do you want us to jump, unlike the illegal owners of firearms.

V interesting I thought 'Quartile' was a 'fourth part' not a third part and please dont quote three divides one into four, that's not what it says in BASC's table.
For reference - here -
Thanks, yes that is rather confusing and I don't think we will use that terminology for any future reports, even if the statistical usage is correct (i.e. Q1 First quartile: 25% of the data are below this value, Q2: Second quartile / Median: This value splits the data in half. Q3 Third quartile: 25% of the data are above this value)
