Be Aware...Lymes Disease

Get well soon!

Actually I agreed with him....the last time I knew I had been bitten by a tick was well over a year ago....probably over 2, and I had seen none of the classic symptoms that we all know about.

Can someone list the symptoms for those that don't know a lot about it? I know it can be googled but it'd be interesting to know what to ACTUALLY watch for.

Dont be self diagnosing, alot of illnesses have basically the same symptoms and onky blood tests can identify whats what

A story/heads-up...

About a month ago I woke with a sore shoulder, it got worse, and eventually spread all around the muscles in my upper body and top of my legs...as if I had been chainsawing for a week solid or been beaten up. In the first 10/12 days I couldn't lie comfortably in bed, spending all night in a chair watching all the crap on nightime TV. I was maximum dosing on paracetamol, plus a couple of nights took some stronger pills left over after I had extensive surgery several years ago. After 2 weeks I saw my doc, he thought it was some sort of virus. I asked him to do a blood test for Lymes. He said he didn't think it was Lymes but we'll do a test. Actually I agreed with him....the last time I knew I had been bitten by a tick was well over a year ago....probably over 2, and I had seen none of the classic symptoms that we all know about.

Positive test....anti-biotics start tommorrow.

If in doubt....ask for a test!
Sincerely hope you're OK Mate, all the best !
A warning to all of us.

I got a stiff neck and flu like symptoms recently about one week after finding a tick. The doctor confirmed that the area I had been stalking in was recored as having a Lymes disease prevalence. So the tests were done that proved negative, but they said that the test was only 50% effective. They gave me the serious antibiotics and the symptoms went. Do not hesitate to tell your doctor that you have had a greater exposure to Lymes if you are around deer.

had to use my set off o"tom tick remover for the first time this year today.looks like it could be a long year ahead.
glad i aways carry them in my wallet.

Update...

Had my 2 weeks of doxycycline, much better but joint pains resurfaced, back to quack who admitted he was beat. Appointment with specialist at Ninewells...SIX weeks..
New plan...28 days of I/V antibiotics at hosp everyday...luckily...hopefully.... I will be able to do most of it at the local cottage hospital rather than traipsing into Dundee everyday.

He explained that it has 3 main pathways...joints, brain, heart. ECG OK, I convinced him my brain was as sharp as ever(?). Hopefully no lasting damage to joints. However had it not been diagnosed when I asked for a test....?

PLEASE be aware..

Hate to say it, but I've had stiff neck and achey joints for three years now, I had eight weeks on doxycycline before going down the IV route. And my memory for place names is rubbish since too :/
But good luck, seems like you had early treatment unlike the seven months trying to find a dr who accepted that there are ticks on Salisbury plain !!!!

Cottage hospital said they had no-one trained(?). However staff at Ninewells trained wifey and I to do it ourselves....done 8 days out of the 21...actually feel improvement already. Gives me a chance to read the paper while it's going in! Does give you the roaring *****s tho'!

Bad luck with the Lymes- I got it in 2010 and the antibiotics are strong stuff. Don't try to do anything very soon. I got back to work too early and it flaired up again and a further 15 months to be given the all clear.

One of the side effects of anti bio tics is that the knock you gut bacteria. Worth getting hold of a good pro biotic. About ten years ago I dislocated my left wrist and got post op infection. Ten days of morphine and IV anti biotics it settled down. But resulted in me becoming intolerant to wheat, barley and dairy - worst part is I can't now drink beer - just have to stick to Cider.

View attachment 44896Im currently on medication for Lymes. I saw this rash on my leg a couple of weeks ago after a tick bite and knew what is was immediately. If you get a rash that looks like a red ring round a central bite go to the docs straight away!

I did go to the docs when I had a rash round my tick bite, and I got told don't be stupid it's nothing. Ha well it's effected my joints and skin, I'm 21 but feel like I'm 80!! :( Not been able to shoot the shotgun in well over a year as I can't cope with the recoil.

Had it in 1995 treated with antibiotics off work for twelve weeks, probably six months before I was `100% or so I thought
now suffering from heart disease which they say could be a result of the Lymes.

Hope you all get the clear results Gerard I am sure you will be ok. I am paranoid about biting insects and were insect replant like deodorant. My mates used to laugh till one got Lyme's he was a mess no good for 6 month,s

Don't forget lads and lassies an infected tick bite does NOT always come up in a red ring as shown in this thread. Mine didn't, and Lyme Disease can manifest itself many different ways.

If you are not sure get yourself tested. Lyme Disease can kill if left untreated and is not to be taken lightly.
