First time shooting boar - carcass handling vs deer?

Well done you!! Tell us the story then...
Crap story, walk to high seat, wind completely going the wrong way. Trigger finger freezing. See boar, shoot boar, phone land owner to get quad, use telehandler to suspend and gralloch. Drive home, struggle like F to lift into chiller. 58.15kg larder weight.

If I shoot something with decent teeth I'd like to keep them, when/how do you remove them from the head/skull?
Well done for your first boar!
As a general rule, 1/3 of the tusk is out and visible & 2/3 is in the jaw at a younger boar. As they getting older, 50% out & 50% in.
According to that ratio, you need to cut off the jaws, skin it, then boil it till you can easily pull out the tusks. Very important to put the tusks back to the water letting it cool down slowly otherwise it will crack easier. Then fill them up with some flexible silicon.

Well done fella, good shot too, no messing about.

Now get it skinned asap, the meat will firm better for butchering. Good luck with the skinning, you'll need a sharp knife as you need to use it a lot to undress one of these things. Unlike deer, the hair goes through the skin and in to the fat layer essentially anchoring the skin layer to the fat. It's worth the hassle though.

O well at least it was worth the cold!! Should be good eating👍

well done there not like deer are they, solid as anything even smaller ones, harder to drag or handle than any deer, nice size for eating miles better than a big stinky Boar, plenty of nice cuts with that one, regards wayne

Good job. It is lovely to see a plan come together.

Boar is fast becoming my household's favourite meat.

If your farmer friend ever needs help with those pigs, pm me! ;)

A favourite of a couple of mates were on the menu in the evenings on restaurant outings, Spare rib of Wildshwein, I preferred the Kleine portion, Unlike them! 😳
