Import ban

Not much of a poster anymore but thought it was worthwhile putting this up. Was surprised you’ve all been quiet on the issue I’m sure because no one has heard. There is a serious push for a bill to be passed that stops the import of hunting trophies into the uk. This has since been fast tracked by zac Goldsmith and was debated today at Westminster. The bill has grown legs and while originally was only got to include cites appendencies 1&2 is now looking like a total ban on everything incoming and outgoing. So not even a Sika head from Ireland or a set of boar tusks from a trip to Europe could be imported. The bill would also stop the export of animals taken In the uk by foreign clients. Serious stuff and it’s happening now and from talking to sources today will likely evolve in the next few weeks.

Any links to todays debate? There was another thread about it coming up for discussion, but that is just a turnaround trying to ban all species regardless of rarity.

Yup and it also seems to want to ban any keeping of trophies as well. So you wont be able to keep the antlers of any bucks you shoot next year.

Suppose could always move overseas to somewhere in Europe that is more pro-hunting.

Oh some bloody idiots have put an end to that alternative as well :(

That mixed with the end of released birds and grouse management will swiftly spell the end for substantial estate revenue..I guess we’ll see all estates owned by foreign tycoons within long.

Keeping of ANY trophies!!jeez

As for export of game shot by foreign visitors, well that’s already sorted because no one is going to come stalking in the UK from abroad anymore

I was just amazed how little the shooting fraternity seem to care. It won’t just effect those who shoot lions it will essentially stop everything

I can find nothing anywhere on line saying about a total ban on trophy import or keeping trophies. Only an intent to ban import of cities listed trophies. If anyone has a link to anything else could they please post it.

I would rather read the actual Bill that is being put before parliament before I jump on the "outraged" bandwagon...

How on earth would they police the keeping of any trophies?

Exactly right, all I can find is as per my post cities listed trophies. There is no way you could stop the keeping of all trophies as what is a trophy, a lucky rabbits foot is a trophy and how would you police it ? Total rubbish

Probably by giving the police and any "animal rights" organisation a right of entry without warrant. Tongue only half in cheek.

aye right,, good luck when they get to my house, I have a few animals that have their own ideas of "peoples rights" when turning up uninvited.
I have vampire skulls as wall lamps, [no really I have} I wonder if they count as "trophies" :-|

The UK is a small market for big game. However, every penny taken away from us operators equals another dead animal in Africa. These people are morons with blood on their hands.

If the larger markets (US, etc.) were to do something similar, our place would be a million acres of maize in less than a decade.

There was a peice in yesterday’s Fieldsports Britain and Charlie Jacoby also contributed to a Sunday Times article at the weekend. If you not a shareholder or supporter of Fieldsports Britain you should be.

For those interested (and willing to endure much misunderstanding and ignorance) here is the debate from Westminster Hall yesterday:

The danger is that this passes through the parliamentary stages quickly because focus is on Brexit. I view this as a more dangerous time than ever for such legislation to be brought forward.
