Installing an Ebony forend tip

Adam,

Please can you put up a photo of that rasp you are using to finish off the barrel groove.
It's more of a heavy duty scraper than a rasp. I'm afraid I've no idea where I got it from. I'm sure someone with a metal working lathe could knock one up without too much bother.

That's good to know! I'm looking forward to trying my hand at fashioning a new stock from a blank, but the bit that really fazes me is the checkering.
Once you get everything laid out it's not too bad. It's quite easy to make paper templates from existing guns and transfer them to the blank. Be warned, it takes a very long time and is unimaginably boring!

I think that when I get that far I'll probably be sending it over to you!

No problem, happy to help!

I see that you're Suffolk based. My old stamping ground, before I "emigrated". I'm over there 2 - 3 times a year, as I winter sheep at Iken. Just got back from fetching a load home a couple of days ago, actually.
Could maybe tie in one of my trips with getting the checkering done.

No problem - I've got no plans on moving any time soon! Feel free to drop by whenever is convenient

Piece of EN16/24T or silver steel 01 would be just right for that, guessing around 1" dia

Barrel bedding tool, Brownells have a commercial version HERE, in different sizes made up in discs, The set I have used had one handle and you changed the washers/discs to the diameter required
