Lead ban date announced

Hmm I don't mind too much about the .410, its only a cheapo gun, although I do have nearly 1000 cartridges! But the 28g is a nice side by side worth c £3500 err was! and about 750 cartridges. I guess its like the rather expensively bought netsuke collection I have........
Head to the range with the 410 and enjoy them

Good alternatives will come out for the 28 for sure, even if it’s not right on, or before the deadline, it will happen, they’re popular in europe too.

In the case of rifle ammo it cant be illegal to possess lead projectiles because they arent banned for range use where they de-lead the back stops. Unless i've missed something

I have tungsten shot. Use it in my 10g for geese. Does that mean I am a posh bastard?
If so I'll switch back to lead immediately!
Have you looked at the price of it recently? TSS shot shells in the US are reportedly around 20 bucks a pop.
At that price you do indeed qualify as a posh bastard.

What’s your source for that?

It’s no longer proposed legislation, it’s been passed (I’ve not bothered to look into how but at a guess, amendments to REACH can be made by the relevant Minister as secondary legislation).

The amendments which have been published prohibit the use of or the placing on the market of lead projectiles - I can’t see a prohibition on possession (but, as noted above, the circumstances of possession could be used to infer an intention to use/place on the market).
I read it in one of the posts here, it makes sense, ammunition has a long shelf life, if possession wasn’t banned it would take several generations to take lead out of use.

Note the abject failure of BASC in regard to .243 Winchester. The authoritave voice of shooting?

23. Paragraph 12(b) does not apply to other projectiles which are—

(a)a calibre of less than 6.17 millimetres and used in, or placed on the market for use in, live quarry shooting, including related zeroing;

(b)used in, or placed on the market for use in, indoor target shooting; or

(c)placed on the market for use at an outdoor shooting range.

Yet being spun by BASC as somehow a success. Please, Alice, pass the sick bag:

BASC’s deputy director of shooting operations, Terry Behan, said: “In 2020, BASC and other shooting organisations took the initiative by announcing a voluntary five-year transition away from lead shot and single-use plastics for live quarry shooting, knowing that regulatory change was likely. Our priority was to uphold the shooting community’s long-standing commitment to high environmental standards while protecting the future of shooting in the UK.

“We’re pleased to see that the exemptions BASC successfully argued and lobbied for – including for small calibre rifles, airguns, shooting on ranges that meet mitigation requirements, and elite athletes – have been included in the Government’s plans, reflecting the practical realities of pest control, target shooting and competitive shooting.

“We are disappointed that the Government has not listened to the advice of the shooting sector on the inclusion of .243 within the definition of larger calibres.

Maybe it's time for BASC to just pack up and fade away. All puff and promise like ten year certificates. But never mind still good deals to be had on red wine in the quarterly magazine. Should come with a punched hole on the top left corner and ready perforated to make its use easier in the outhouse.
Too shiny, Remember Izal the spreader

Guys, you’re aiming at the wrong target. The argument over whether or not lead in ammunition is over.
Your government has decided to implement a ban.
That is now official policy and its not going to change.

so we are being banned from using lead in case it gets into the environment THAT IT'S FROM !
Yep, when I was in Germany, a friend of mine walked me through a German lead mine where Russian prisoners of war were used technically a slave labour to mine the lead.

Completely natural comes from the ground what can you say to that? The whole thing is an absolute cluster ****?

From a compliance perspective it would make sense for shot (not bullets, given they’re ok for range use) and I believe it was in the proposal to ban possession.

However, that hasn’t made its way into that reg.

Based on poor science and hidden agendas, after all lead from elite athletes guns is allowed.

This country is run to suite the agenda and personal ambitions of the MPs not the people who they are supposed to represent. Section 2 to section 1 next, as they will decide what’s best not for us but for them under the agenda of public safety driven by one MP, one person out of the population of this country.

we will be lucky to get any compensation for unused lead ammunition, they learnt that lesson from the pistol ban.
With a 3 year forewarning and timescale to use your lead stock up.. no, very unlikely you’ll get a penny for handing anything in.
