How many folk with multiple dogs are effected by new vet ruling of a consultation for each animal before dispensing of flea / tick & worming treatments ?

If so how do you treat your animals now / source treatments and if so what treatments ?

Prescribing rules taken from the RCVS guidelines. Dogs can be treated as a "group" I am pretty sure.

3 dogs.
Just ask vet and they prescribe worm, flea and tick stuff.
Vet told wifey that some but not all treatments from pet stores are no use.
She did name names but I can’t remember those.

It only affects wormers and flea products that are POM-V - ie vet only, so your bravecto, credilio type products.

It's a mess of legality regarding prescribing and as a profession we are rather stuck with it.
Can you recommend products that you as a vet would say work but not “ POM-V” ?

Was hoping to the vet would supply Bravecto for my pack of 6x without having to pay for 6x consultations….but was disappointed with their response. Shame as it’s a very effective product 🙄

I was wondering the same. You have to give Bravecto every 3 months.

Does this mean you need 4 prescriptions a year for each dog? Or will they write you a prescription for a years worth of pills for example?

Independent community, long established vet practices are getting swallowed up. The result is that although the staff themselves are customer focussed, the companies they now work for have, as a priority money.

I know that's a great generalisation but it does seem that way to me. My vets also now have to see a dog before dispensing flea and worm and tick medication. Although at present the consultation is free, you only pay for the stuff.

My most recent medication was bought online. However, having read the above, I didn't know it might not be too effective. I think I'll have to check that next time.

I heard the other day that the competition commission (possibly not the correct title) are going to be looking into the ownership of most vets by big companies, who aren't exactly acting in consumer interest.
