Plenty of vets are more then happy to take as much as they can.Legal problem is more accurate.
I have 3 dogs, I waited until they were due for inoculations so no need to pay extra for the consultation fee, it was for Bravecto. Was hoping to the vet would supply Bravecto for my pack of 6x without having to pay for 6x consultations….but was disappointed with their response. Shame as it’s a very effective product![]()
Advantage, Advocate both work as does fipronil (frontline) if used properly. Panacur still good for wormsCan you recommend products that you as a vet would say work but not “ POM-V” ?
/ readily available

I have an ongoing issue with a swelling on the rear cannon bone making him 2/10th lame- been going on since mid December 2023. I have been told by the vet that it is good and bad news, the good news is they can’t see anything wrong with the leg - bad news is they don’t know what is causing the issue- £3.5 k bill so farPlenty of vets are more then happy to take as much as they can.
since i started in pest control i could never understand how it was advised to treat to prevent.Advantage, Advocate both work as does fipronil (frontline) if used properly. Panacur still good for worms
What would I recommend? - to be frank, less and less, not because of efficacy but becuase an awful lot are not needed. We are in a bit of a sea-cahnge with regard to parasite control in pets and essesntially:
Adult dogs don't need worming unless a scavenger/hunter. pups and kittens yes.
Lungworm - perhaps if in a known area and your dog is a snail/slug eater
Ticks - no need, dogs don't really get lyme
Fleas - treat if you see them.
Dogs don’t get Lyme? I have had two dogs with it around 15 yrs ago- lost a 18 month old Patterdale - was a tick magnet- paralysed front leg and wasted away - tests came back positive - vet would not believe me at first and only gave 14 day antibiotics- by time test results came back there was a break in antibiotics and second does did not kick in-Ticks - no need, dogs don't really get lyme
Fleas - treat if you see them.
Yes and we all go to the NHS when in a bad way...it might be a bit of a wait in A&E but you get seen with out a big billNo more than restaurants, garages, plumbers, electricians to pick provate enterprise at random.

Lyme antibodies are common in dogs, but that doesn't mean they'd had Lyme as a disease, true cases are very few indeed.Yours might have been an exception, or infecton of another kind. Rotten luck regardlessDogs don’t get Lyme? Then GWP - I removed tick from base of spine- bit later bulls eye appears- straight onto long course of antibiotics- as vet believed me this time- dog survived but lost some use of back legs - also affected eye sight and muscles in jaw.
I’m not getting into it. Apart from to sayNo more than restaurants, garages, plumbers, electricians to pick provate enterprise at random.
Harsh, unfair and untrue.I’m not getting into it. Apart from to say
Vets take highway robbery to new levels.
Afraid not .Harsh, unfair and untrue.

Like hell they will. My 14 yr old spaniel is on metacam and incurin for rest of life. She has to be seen every time for a prescription ( nearly £50 now too). Utter rip offI was wondering the same. You have to give Bravecto every 3 months.
Does this mean you need 4 prescriptions a year for each dog? Or will they write you a prescription for a years worth of pills for example?
Sometimes vets are worth every penny. Most of the time we are just being ripped offno body wants to pay for anything now, vets are worth every penny
What is she on it for?Like hell they will. My 14 yr old spaniel is on metacam and incurin for rest of life. She has to be seen every time for a prescription ( nearly £50 now too). Utter rip off
Is that why they’re being investigated for massively over inflating medicine and treatment prices?no body wants to pay for anything now, vets are worth every penny
