You have to get him him caped buddy, to be honest, if I was you, I would cape him anyway and put him int he freezer and save up, if you decide against it just do the head but least you’ve got the option….

That my friend is the muntjac buck of a life time and I wouldn’t at all be suprised if he scored in the high 70s if not the 80s to be honest

Haha he is already caped in case! But yeh I’ve never seen one with the brow tines this long personally. I’ve spoken to my local CIC guy who thinks it should certainly make mid 70s but hard to tell from photos and my v amateurish measurements! Thanks so much for your support though, appreciate your knowledge!

I have just check my gold buck and it measured 65.5, yours looks huge in comparison.

Hi all,

Last night I managed to finally shoot a large muntjac buck that I have been after for a while. I am not one to chase a trophy however, this old boy has been around for years and the excitement was that he was always one step ahead of me rather than simply the size of his head. Having said that, he is a belter. His head is even larger than I initially thought. The most striking thing is the lengths of his brow tines (5cm & 4cm). The main antler lengths are 13.8cm & 13.9cm*. I have taken all the advised measurements from CIC guidance and think he really is a monster. Do people know if the scoring system is just all measurements less variance or if other things are taken into account?

* I am fully aware that my measurements are not as accurate as those who do it professionally, but I took them using fine string as a rough guide.

Hi, I have a spreadsheet that will calculate a rough score but I need two more measurements.

1. what is the maximum span between the two main beams at the midpoint?

2. What are the circumferences of the coronets?

Muntjac scoring rewards symmetry. On the face of it you have a big gold medal, it might even be close to a record!
