Non FAC air rifles. Security

preventing it being removed also applies south of the border. It’s all about stopping under under 18s taking possession.

Did you not read your link ? in England and Wales they need to be separated from their ammo and kept from those under 18 . They dont have to be in a safe just a safe place , the court might be asked to take a view in the case of things going badly for someone but it is as it says " safe place " not " stored in a locked safe "

These changes to legislation are all well and good, but without actually publicising them so that the thousands of air gun owners know that they have changed / been updated what good is it? . It is only through this post that I have found the changes.

I recently worked in a house where I found an old air rifle in the understairs cupboard, I asked the wife about it and she said don't touch it as my husband always keeps it loaded in case he sees a rat 😞 they were of an age that grandchildren could be visiting.
Seen it too many times never have a loaded firearm unattended .

It confuses things to have different rules in Scotland and England and Wales on guns . A Scottish dwelling ner-do - well only has to drop down to Carlisle buy an airgun and drive back.
There must be thousands unregistered in Barns etc , maybe forgotten . All over Scotland

That would be illegal 😅 for what it's worth, the chap who took my DSC1 course lives in Dumfries and had gone to Carlisle to do as you described (he wanted to get/pick up an air rifle). He was asked for proof of address by the shop in Carlisle. So as far as I am aware, they (or at least some of them) are checking...

I believe that the trigger guard is not on it’s own adequate unless it stops the gun being removed. Examples-
If an under 18 can walk off with a gun with a trigger lock fitted it’s illegal.
If the trigger lock is fastened to the wall to stop the gun being removed then it’s legal.

When applying for my AWC I was advised trigger lock is alright, but to keep in line with the legislation I was better off putting a bike lock through the trigger guard and then around a "non movable" support post to prevent my missus (who does not have an AWC) from walking away, as you say. I believe the trigger lock was optional - although never actually went into too much detail with plod as I was purely applying for an AWC so I didn't have to hire an instructor along with a rented air rifle if I wanted to try the plinking range, had no intention of actually purchasing an AW...

I evidently read it better than you read my posts.
When did I say that they needed to be in a safe?
I didn’t.

but as not FAC there are far fewer restrictions placed on where you can shoot it, how much ammo etc
i have never personally heard of someone having a 22 LR on special conditions ( well forgetting my county force for a fair time said we can't shoot foxes with the 22 lr, it wasn' t enough apparently ) That ended well over a decade ago .
No point figuring some daftness. Yeah i heard of folks having an imposed low limit even in my own county , it makes no sense when you think about it . If the applicant cant pass muster - Lets not give them a licence in the first place imho. It only takes one badly assessed round not a few thousand and a nutter with the least amount of a box of RF is what 25 rounds ? That could make a very , very bad day in the wrong hands

I understand there is no requirement of an approved cabinet for any firearm .
There is however I think a British standard to follow.

My main cabinet is homemade and there has been no complaints.

My sub 12 air rifle cost upwards of £2500 including the night vision scope.I lock it up due to the cost alone, and if l didn't have FAC rifles would still buy a safe to put it in.

Its a poor do if the cops dont give you an open condition on a RF , Land has never made sense every bit of land massive or tiny that you cannot take a safe shot in certain areas. At the same time a shot can be safe in a tiny garden , its all about where the bullet ends up not how big the land is .
Less than 600 rounds on RF is just mean spirited , it has no bearing on anything safety wise nor does it prevent a mass killing because half that amount fired is likely going to be impossible. Its not unknown for real serious target shooter to test then buy tens of thousands of rounds in one go after batch testing
Myself ? I am happy with a brick and a half or so

When I started to shoot, I was Thinking I was getting my FAC, so I bought a new steel gun cabinet, bought extra long bolts and fitted it in the spare room.
Then Covid hit us and Cheshire Police stopped coming to check, so sadly I went down sub-12 route.
However, I’m now happily spending the kids inheritance 😂

As I’m new here, but I’ll post the cabinet on the For Sale ASAP;
GUN-CABINET-STEEL-6-GC02-BLACK-VAR-KMS - WestWood 3 Or 6 Gun CabinetSecurity Lockable Safe Storage Rifle Firearm Steel[6 Guns]

If you’re looking to lock up sub-12, a look on eBay for `tall metal cabinet’ you’ll find lockable cabinets, such as those used for work overalls from £25, maybe delivery is extra, but there’s lots of them fairly local

However having an air rifle in Scotland with an Air Weapons Permit means that you are in illegal possession of a Firearm which is a criminal offence with a significant tariff attached. Matters not whether its an old air rifle or air pistol that barely makes 3 ft lbs, or shotgun or a deer stalking rifle or a handgun, in the eyes of the procurator fiscal they are all treated the same.

Wow, you have a wardrobe....!

I could do with one for my PJ's...
Hahaha we have plenty of wardrobes over 4 rooms, but I can say only half of the smallest one has my clobber in what or who uses the rest ??? ( there’s only 2 people at home now the kids have flown the coop) two of them I had to install a double hanging system in them to all her tops. SWMBO has the lot all my coats gunroom, all my layers gunroom, just about anything of mine gunroom 🥹

Discrimination at its worst 🤣🤣🤣
