Members may recall of my wee accident I had whilst stalking stags in October in Glen Lyon. Sadly, my injury a rather nasty broken ankle requiring surgery and a short stay in hospital has taken quite a while to heel which unfortunately put paid to my doe stalking and rough shooting during the remaining moths of the autumn and winter shooting season. However, and even though I am still a little unsteady on my feet, last Thursday and only for a couple of hours I tried my luck casting a fly hoping to tempt a Springer on a new stretch of the Dee our Association has leased. It was wonderful to be out once more and on such a mild Spring day at that too. It was over six months since I last cast with my salmon rod and it did take a moment or two to get back into rhythm . The river was in fine fettle and would you believe it? I was rewarded for my efforts with a cracking bar of silver weighing in at about 8lb and with sea lice. And yes, safely returned to the river
A good boost to my confidence, as well as more fishing to come I can now put in time moving a couple of high seats ready for the bucks starting. A job that had to be put off my my accident. Although the season starts next week I am not usually out until May puts in her appearance. Seeing the Red kites and a Kingfisher whilst at the river fishing was a great addition to my fishing and when out stalking the bucks, can only be equalled by the daunting sound of the cuckoo.
Hopefully, with no miss haps this year I plan to take full advantage of my retirement time stalking, fishing and shooting. I hope other members of SD equally have a good season in front of them.

Excellent news and congratulations on the Springer! I have been lucky enough to have had a couple of hard won springers over the years and would put them miles ahead of the more usual summer or autumn fish. Onwards and upwards!:tiphat:

Well done and congrats on the fish, just being by the water is always soothing but a springer is icing on the cake. I know personally how long lower leg breaks take to heal and pain associated with it. Hopefully this is the start of new chapter and you can enjoy your retirement.

Wonderful on two counts sir! To actually begin to return to one of your passions afterr injury and to catch a salmon are both great starts to the rest of your huntin, shootin, fishin days.
More power to your elbow.
