Stalking smock advice

Swedteam titan....
Never found a nomad very breathable tbh...
Fortis field smock non fur lined is pretty good....
Chevalier Galagos hybrid is a good compromise..
Have a look at the stoney creek smock/Bush shirt... haven't tried one but if the stalker smock I have is anything to go by (not waterproof but keeps a bit of rain off) it should be good....

Forgive the question, but what advantages does a smock offer over a jacket?
I find if i'm laying on wet ground with a jacket there is more chance of water finding its way through in the zip area, and I do a bit of laying down. But I have not owned a high end jacket which may be better. I much prefer the temperature control a jacket offers and opening it up helps with sweat drying on a hard walk.

Got a Nomad Hooded smock and Kuiu Yukon, both are great but when it's really bad conditions I'll take the Yukon, bombproof piece of gear. Nomads fantastic when it's getting colder.

just get the best

Trying a Harkila Stornoway Smock this year, anything to try and stop the usual boil-in-the-bag look at the end of a day on the hill. Long zip at the side to help keep some air movement, but will know better after the next couple of months....

Always gone with an old Para smock unless the weather is really bad. Loads of pockets/tough as old boots/breathable and surprisingly water resistant if sprayed up with Fabsil or similar.

I should add I have a Ridgeline smock for bad weather-not bad, it certainly doesn’t leak but it has all the breathability of a bin bag.

I woulnt buy anything Nomad full stop ! I have a greenland smock thats seen a good bit of action though . You need a good base layer of Wool under it in winter but thats easy sorted its not a warm weather smock but good on days without too much sun as it has very large zip open underarm slits that reach down your ribs. very good for wet n muddy crawls . Drys well and fast for the next day. Only time i got wet in it was laid in a big puddle on a stone track waiting for a big stag to show more than its antler tops foe an hour or more . Anyhow o later found out the wet belly didnt come from the smock leaking but the water bottle i stored in it leaking . It being inside the jackets waterproof shell. Had it about a year now and thats a good bit of stalking , dog work etc

Nomad smock but don’t layer up under it if you’re moving about. They have protected me from some of the foulest weather imaginable & still good to go for the next day. The hood is annoyingly big & the sleeves aren’t quite long enough for me ( I have very long arms) but it’s so comfortable and protective I even wear it for skiing if the weather’s shitty.
