Syndicate warning

Syndicates are an absolute minefield at best.

Generally , if I see one advertised I automatically assume its a crock of sh*t.

If a syndicate is that good , it will be dead man's shoes and there WILL be folk waiting to get in.
what this bloke said!!!

very wary of people advertising opportunities for syndicates.

If you believe the individual is committing a scam or fraud you should really have a word with the appropriate authorities. At the very least somebody acting in a fraudulent or criminal behaviour shouldn’t be holding an FAC.

The problem is that people have admitted that there are deer there. Just not many. I would imagine that it would be very difficult convict him of anything.

Before committing to a syndicate I'd want to know there were a bucket load of deer there. Look for browse lines on ivy and shrubs, tree rubbing, slots, tracks, larder records, photos. Take a thermal out at dawn or dusk.

Also be aware of closed book / "one-man-calling-the-shots" type syndicates. The syndicates that work are open book (costs divided by syndicate members) and simple google calendar to make sure people are not stalking at the same time, that's it. Maybe one lead member gets a cost dispensation for dealing with admin/landowner/farmers, repairs, call outs for RTAs/injured deer/rogue fox, living locally etc.

I have a chap near me, he's a bit of con artist. There were deer there when he got the rights, nigh on all shot out now 3/4 years later. He seems to have a knack of finding people willing to part with their hard earned for a promise. He sells pigeon shooting decoying days, also roost shooting evenings. Puts down half the number of pheasants that he tells people he puts down, sells small walked up days.
Always an excuse, deer are wild and wander so not always where the high seats are.
Pigeon not feeding in the area so roosting elsewhere, ditto decoying.
Pheasant excuses are generally that they're really skittish and getting around us today.
It amazes me that people believe him and only once that I know of has someone demanded refunds. Thank god his term is up end of this season,he won't be renewing as I know who's ground it is and he's already stated as much. He's not broken any rules of his rental agreement and he's not really doing anything illegal shooting wise.
But, he's not honest and that's what really gets people going.

Agreed. Please don't think that I'm defending him because I'm not. His sort are the scum of the earth. Sadly I just can't see how these types could be charged with fraud as deer (particularly fallow) are wild and could come through the next day or the next. It's a difficult one!

A person i know of booked a week culling fallow with him. It was thousands of pounds and expected bag of 50 fallow, there hasn’t been more than half a dozen fallow on the ground in the last 20 years

There are plenty of you know where to look, widespread Muntjac, increasing numbers of roe and large numbers of fallow in certain parts
I'm sure. I'm just saying its well known to be one of the last places in the UK to be re-colonised by deer. Just look at those deer distribution maps with the central white hole. Its happening though and in ten years it'll be overrun like everywhere else!

He could be charged with fraud if, as a post above suggests, he does not have the shooting rights. Selling something that does not exist or you do not have is fraud plain and simple.

Just a heads up in a hope of protecting people in the future.

I found a syndicate position through social media (not TSD) had a lengthy discussion with the gamekeeper about cull no.s, walked the ground did the research and paid my fee.

Syndicate was based in much Wenlock, Brockton, Shropshire.

Putting aside the times I was not allowed to visit the ground as they were working on the farm, including muck spreading at 6am in winter on a Sunday, the times I had visited I saw not 1 deer (I have thermal too) .

Although I cannot garuntee there are not deer on the ground (they should be in the area) what is clear is the gamekeeper is overselling the syndicate. Statement was that there were only 6 people and only me and one other were new members. This was not the case. I was added to a WhatsApp ground where everyone was a new member.

The result of all the above has ended with me and many others getting our money back but I have a strong feeling the gamekeeper has only been able to refund me and others is because they’ve had new payments off other unsuspecting joiners.

Lesson learnt from myside but this whole experience has left a bitter taste. Syndicate seems to be sold under various names and slight changes in location. Proceed with caution people.
Me and a few friends have had dealings with this Guy at the start of the year. 4 of us Joined for £1400 pounds each. We started to hear rumours of the guy doesn’t even own the shooting rights amongst other things. We all asked for refunds. It took over 2 months to get a refund and was finally sorted when we had to get solicitors letters draughted and the police involved with a threat of fraud against the guy advertising the stalking. Beware all as this is nothing but a CON.

Excellent. Glad you got your money back. Probably still cost you a bit in legal fees and the stress of it but at least he has had people stand up to him. 👍

A good syndicate will have a waiting list off the back of friends of existing members and so on. Failing this, spaces are filled easily by word of mouth if it really is any good. All these ones that are constantly advertising must have some questions to answer.

A letter didn’t cost anything as it was a template for a county court hearing. Baffle them with bull**** 😃. Seemed to have shook him up though. The police involvement was real though. Incidentally his partner / girlfriend is involved too as it’s her bank account he uses.

Lets be blunt , if you have enough ground and deer to set up a syndicate - you dont need to advertise it ! It goes both ways of course from the owner not having any deer or the exact opposite there are loads , shoot all you can ( then someone does start racking up the numbers ) Then they get told to stop shooting .
I have only ever been involved with one syndicate on the deer and if i joined another it would likely be just a few mates getting together , no advertising and a clear cull plan before each season and regular meetings to asses numbers being taken .
A syndicate should NOT be a bit of ground with a few deer and a get rich quick scheme or a scam to get others to pay the rent on your stalking
