The africahunting forum is carrying a thread with a link to the mirror newspaper claiming that Boris is abandoning the Animals Abroad Bill
Good opportunity to slip things through without much blowbackAnyone would think there are bigger fish to fry at the moment
Not to mention the slightly neo-colonial overtones. Banning the trophy import to so called protect these species is essentially saying 'dumb natives are to incabable of managing their own wildlife - they need to be told how to do it by someone from Islington'.It would appear for the time being to have been cancelled, if that's the right word? I think there was strong opposition to the bill, and rightly so. It was based on the greenies and so called conservationists that had little or no understanding of the way game is managed and hunting conducted around the world. As the UK is signed up to CITIES, it already covers the protection of certain animals that are classified as endangered.
Therefore an outright ban of most animal products would have been a minefield, and would not give any endangered species added further protection, in fact it would have the opposite, in my opinion.
I assume you've heard of the camp fire scheme, which has been in place for a number of years? Not to mention the slightly neo-colonial overtones. Absolutely I have. It is an excellent long term conservation plan that works. And sadly, this Government seems intent on kicking the legs out from under it to satisfy the readers of the Guardian in their London town houses. Emotion over science; which is too often the case when it comes to policy for hunting and shooting.I assume you've heard of the camp fire scheme, which has been in place for a number of years?
