Morning all,
A few weeks back, there was a chap who introduced a Virtus Precision on here but subsequently had difficulty registering as a trade member. Unfortunately, there were a number of responses to the thread that were fairly discouraging and focused on highlighting spelling mistakes rather than encouraging the originator to get signed up, paid up, and start distributing their wares.
Anyway, I bumped into one of the guys behind the company that same week and got talking. As it turns out, attention to detail is something that he is most definitely not short of. The projectiles they produce are founded upon decades of shooting experience under more varied conditions than you can imagine, and using one of the broadest datasets you are likely to find anywhere in the industry! Shooting is his thing, Social Media is not..... Hence the shaky 1st post.
So having bent his ear for a good hour, I told him to put his money where his mouth is and let me have a go with some of his stuff before I bought any. He gave me 10 x 6.5 projectiles at 110gr and I scuttled off to the loading shed to knock up some ammo to about 2800fps
Fast forward a week and I'm out looking for Muntjac. I came across 2 that evening and shot both with the Merlin projectiles supplied.
Both deer dropped on the spot instantly. Even using traditional lead bullets, some of which expand quite violently at the speed/range in question here (80-100 yards), I rarely get quite such instant results.
I'm told that the Merlins will expand down to 1500 fps thus are well suited to longer range shooting or milder loads at short range, and based on the accuracy and expansion I can absolutely believe it. They make other, less frangible stuff too but the guy had none on him that day. Anyway, enough of my ramblings, take a look at the photos below.
Anyway, in light of the recent difficulty in getting hold of bullets of all flavours, I just thought I'd let you all know that there's a UK-based option worth trying. Consider this a bit of a plug on behalf of a genuinely nice guy but believe me, if the bullets were shite I wouldn't bother!
If you're interested in finding out more, or getting your hands on some of their bullets, I can steer you in the right direction until the website is up and running.
