What is the best whisky

It totally depends on how you're feeling and where you are. I think its always best to drink the local whisky to where you are in Scotland as it takes on the character of the surroundings (through the water, storage, etc). But generally I like a lowland or speyside to start the evening or in hot weather, and an island later on. Best to have a collection and then you can drink a range each evening...:)

Aberlour A'Bunadh cask strength every time. In terms of alcohol per pound, it's a winner. On offer occaisionally in Tesco at about £36 per bottle
£46 on the web now so I bought 2 bottle.
My American pal, now deceased would cut his cheap whisky with sherry to fake the flavours up a notch.
I brought spring water back in 2 litre bottles that I had taken off from a spring on Arran to use with a tipple.
Sorry if it is now a dead thread.

Ardbeg, could be had for a reasonably price a few years ago , now the ******* Moët Hennessy who own it have priced it out of range for the working man , bunch of kents. But basically anything from Islay is rays of sunlight captured in water, or angels tears.

I was up in Aberlour the other day and went for a meal at the Mash Tun and they had this on offer:

Only £1500 per measure............................

I didn't have any and stepped away from the bottle!

Mark (the owner and a very nice chap)) has that display on the wall, a bottle of Glenfarclas from most years dating back into the fifties. He says it's most often birthdays or similar parties that chip in and buy the celebrated guest a nip from their birth year.

oooopppphhhh - i don't think I like anyone that much! want to be another 1499 others there chipping in.......

I had a fantastic meal there by the way...

My favourites:

The Ardbeg 15 year old; Laphroaig Quarter Cask, The Dalwhinnie 15 yr old (probably the only Speyside Whiskey I much like), Talisker, and lastly but never leastly! Lagavulin.

Sadly, all are too expensive for a regular tipple now, but a bottle occasionally is a rare treat.

If you saw how much pigeon shiite was on the top floor of the ole Dumbarton distillery on the Clyde before it was turned into apartments on the you'd never drink the stuff.

Not really a whisky drinker but recently I had a dram or two of this and I have to admit it was smooth Sullivans Cove French Oak
