Not cheating in any way.The cheating bit was a bit of a joke, hence the emoji. But to be honest I've seen areas void of foxes due to thermals, and as a terrier man first and foremost feel that the same rifle man using a lamp wouldn't get half the foxes they d without thermal, wether that's from lamp shy foxes or lack of field craft is up for debate.
And yes I do see the need for fox control with a rifle but eradication is different.
I sure this will ruffle a few feathers but that's my opinion.
I never shoot at fox passed 200yard, mainly 100yards, I've seen the fox and terriers going jaw to jaw. I think a well placed bullet is more humane.Nowt wrong with digging fox chap.. Lot more selective control than some divi practicing long range target practice with them..

In the current firmware you can change the style AND colour of the LRF adjusted aim pointThe LRF aim point is also only red and very fine. It’s close enough that with a flat shooting round you will find it hard to see it compared to the ordinary cross hair
Dunno where in Derbyshire you are mate, but if you've had your vaccine to be allowed over the border, you're welcome to come here one afternoon last light & look through my Alpex 4k.I've got a couple of Pards - as DS35 and an 008. Both are set up on dedicated night rifles. They are adequate for what I need but I don't like their daytime performance much. To be honest, the 008 shoots more daytime squirrels than rabbits at the minute and it's "ok" at rimfire ranges but I much prefer glass.
I'd like a digital day scope to maximise the first and last light opportunities on deer on a couple of my bits but I don't like the shallow focal depth and image quality. It's just not there for me yet and I do think that digital scope performance does focus largely on improvements to night time / IR performance (rather than dawn / dusk / natural light) so I'm holding off just now (but watching this thread with interest!).
Thanks Ben - I might take you up on that. How fussy is it on focus? That's one of the things I struggle with.Dunno where in Derbyshire you are mate, but if you've had your vaccine to be allowed over the border, you're welcome to come here one afternoon last light & look through my Alpex 4k.
I wouldn't call it fussy. Certainly less so than my pard 008 was. That's one of the things I struggle with
It is focus fussy , but manageableThanks Ben - I might take you up on that. How fussy is it on focus? That's one of the things I struggle with.
It's less fussy than the Zulus. It is focus fussy , but manageable![]()
With any digi scope I stick the x & y into a note on my phone & occasionally double check (I had it wandering on a 008 too).hopefully saved all the parameters and it stays where it should.
We should of brought one of these years agoFirst one to the Alpex this morning. Shot about 45 mins before sunrise on a very murky morning. I couldn't make out the deer with the binos but got a shot with the Alpex quite clearly. Nice red hind at about 165yds. I reckon it'd have been another 15+ mins before I could see with a conventional scope, by which time the deer would have made the wood they were heading back to.
I'm becoming converted![]()
