Rifle barrel Cleaning

Dishwashing Liquid and a bronze brush. Plus some KG-12 or Robla for the bullet smear.

Dishwashing liquid is thickened with salt.

Dishwashing liquid detergent is an important kitchen product that occurs sodium lauryl ether sulfate and linear alkylbenzene sulphonic acid as anionic surfactant, sodium hidroxide for adjusting PH, sodium chloride for viscosity, dye for colour and fragrange.

I wouldn't want it near a rifle.

So what! Thin it with water. And you are not supposed to leave it in the barrel for an extended period.
Try it, scope the bore and then let‘s talk again.

If you want to pour corrosive liquid down your rifle bore, go right ahead.
I'll stick with products intended for the use they're put to.

Deviating slightly but I came across a video on youtube this morning from Sako about cleaning your rifle. Now I'm a fan of Sako rifles and ammo but this video has to be one of the worst that I have ever watched. It's not very informative and personally I would say it's an embarrassment to Sako.

I found one from SAKO. I didn't see anything horrid. I'm sure some people's sensibilities are offended y the lack of a 'bore guide' and the use of a segmented rod but that is obviously the kit they sell. I've seen worse.~Muir

This will make your head hurt.

Come off it Muir whatever your thoughts regarding cleaning or not cleaning you have to admit that that the Sako video is hardly a smooth professional production.

Yes I've come across the other video before and will admit that I only watched half way before loosing interest.

You're not wrong on head hurt! I've become barrel-cleaning shy after finding that a fouling shot is needed to get back on the POI, so everything else gets TLC - except the bore. Given how few rounds I shoot through my 6.5x55 - 100 or so a year, I'm happy to risk it.

The only thing a good barrel cleaning regime is guaranteed to do is prolong the life of the barrel. The real killer of any barrel is condensation i.e cold out doors into a warm house, condensation on the outside means condensation on the inside and when mixed with carbon becomes a mild acid which means pitting and or rust.
Most rifles need at least one fouling shot to shoot POA, some more. Having borescoped many rifles, a badly pitted barrel will be virtually worthless (to a gun shop) (if you can convince a mate to buy it fair play to you) when you decide to sell it on regardless of its accuracy.
Having said that the makers of barlein barrels talk of copper in a barrels (not too much) as being like rubber on a race track.
