Fieldsports Britain - Hand Thrown Birds - What Were They Thinking?

Looks like Fieldsports Britain are scoring own goals.

Why give this airtime, and why use this thumbnail on social media to promote it...

Yes it has upset a few people, certainly would have been better not as the leading piece or cover art but makes you ponder the ethics of rearing game generally. Something I do, and enjoy, if not fair chase. Shades of grey.

Cheers, I didnt see it come up in the already posted suggestions when writing this.

I'm not too fussed on the sporting or non sporting aspect, just seems like FSB need a lesson in PR.

The distaste we all feel watching the video is probably how a lot of people feel watching driven game.

Is throwing a bird in the air into guns really *that* different to scaring it into guns with a flag?

If the former is like shooting fish in a barrel- the latter is probably like shooting fish in a paddling pool.....

Maybe so. I just think their PR team and editors are morons.

I don't think I needed to see that or even wanted to. (No offence to the OP I'd already seen it)

I actually thought it was click bait when I saw it on YT earlier in the week.
My curiousity got the better of me and I watched it at the time.

Unfortunately it's not something I can understand the need, or want to do something like that.

Bit like most of their pieces

Filmed to justify their jollies in the name of “sporting journalism”

The show is a comedy piece at best used to promote the pockets of their presenters and certain manufacturers who in their eyes can do no wrong

It’s everything distasteful about reviews and reviewers of old

If you want to see realistic and no bollocx reviews go watch Chris Parkin

I don’t think or can’t think of anyone who I watch in the deer stalking arena other than Tomas Haigland (spelling) who doesn’t make me cringe with embarrassment

This. I get that other countries have their own traditions, but broadcasting what I saw was repugnant and does nothing to promote our sport, on any level. It as interesting to see many others were also less enthusiastic and they were there. Not a good choice of topic to show.

Not my bag. Does nothing for the sport here. Also takes a big part of the chance / sporting opportunity out of it! consistent height and timed birds? Might as well just shoot clays. Fish in a barrel springs to mind.

Thats not sport, its just killing for self entertainment.
I am starting to feel more that way about some of the driven days I go on.
Maybe I am just getting old or being only 4 yrs into stalking I just find the whole experience of field to fork with deer so much more rewarding.

Hmmm.
I put up the original post largely to show how damaging to shooting the feature is.
I have every respect for fellow shooting sportsmen across the world but to “throw” live birds to what is in effect a “firing squad” is something I find utterly reprehensible. The programme makers do our sport no favours in broadcasting this.

I have actually experienced this in Poland. We had 2 days hunting , Driven boar and then a 200 bird pheasant shoot.
After the first "drive" it was obvious that the birds were being thrown out of sight from cages that were taken to the woods prior to our arrival.
We bought a 200 bird day and we were expected to shoot all 200 that were brought out regardless weather they were flying or not! We refused to shoot the birds landing immediatly behind us so the keeper and a couple of his helpers were "cleaning up" behind us and I do believe all 200 were killed.
it is the way they do it there but we would not have partisapated had we known. it remains a good story on shoot lunches to this day.

Although not to my taste I do respect others to do so as they wish - not sporting in any shape or fashion agreed but it’s what they do. Watching that episode it seemed in hindsight a lot more acceptable to me than the mass carnage on large commercial shoots.
Far too many people happy to criticise others these days.

Not really but I suppose you would need to experience a well conducted driven shoot to appreciate the difference

They absolute lavish praise on bullets I wouldn’t even use as fishing weights
