What is the best whisky

up untill 6 months ago i couldnt even think bout drinking whisky ...even smell o the stuff turned my nose....but the stated 6 months ago i had a strange urge to try it.....had a couple here n there and even the smell now i love....explain that!!!!! i know im bloody weird!!

so far tried

hague & Dimple
got a bottle of oban and oban distillers choice to open
and tried a macallan

i did the tour round oban distillery not long ago and got given a "flavour map" which works on smokyness & peaty on one axis and light to rich on the other so if you find one you like you can look at the "map" and see what whiskys are in what region you like then try them....admittedly its not got all whiskys on it

its all new to me but im enjoying finding out!!!!!!

Just found out that Crawfords 5 star is no longer ,there's a firm in Edinburgh selling a bottle for £125 !!! I know I liked it a lot --- but not that much.

:old:

I was at a fantastic whisky tasting at Balmoral Castle, as part of the Dalmore rivers series. They made whiskys for the Dee, Spey, Tay and Tweed. All are different and are designed to reflect the river. I don't know about that, but we got to taste a lot of whisky and lots of different types and ages. We were taught to drink it properly, and this was not as flouncy as it sounds. The chap demonstrating was a real expert, really funny and showed us how to best enjoy them. I have drunk whisky for years, but i did learn what to do and how to get the best from it. Unfortunately we drank rather a lot of it and i cannot remember what we have to do!!!
Ok, in the pub i wont swirl it and all that, but i will enjoy it more.

Of the lot the Dee Dram, a fine dalmore as my favourite, and of course, a small percentage of each bottle goes to the river trust. It was smooth and easy to drink. It comes in a fancy box as well if it is for a gift. I get one for my dads christmas every year, and so can enjoy a bit each visit.

For a blended the Whyte and Mackay Special is a good drop. Has been had for as little as £11 a bottle too.

Other than that it's an Auchentoshan for me. The triple wood is especially nice.

I like most of the Islay malts & have been drinking Laphroaig for years. But the Islay whisky I most like, is a 16yr old Lagavulin.
Really does it for me at a moderate cost. ATB

Speyside Malts are my tipple of choice; Macallan, Balvenie, Glenfarclas etc. Balvenie takes some beating in my book but a bit early in the day for me right now!!

Ditto. Love a peaty single malt.

Sadly my constitution isn't what it was but still have a bottle of this on hand for special occasions! :D

All this whisky talk and reading is driving me mad and I'm stuck at work for another 36 hours.

I'd love to be sat in front my wood burner now with a double measure and looking on here etc...
