7mm PRC

Which prc? The .300?

Yes the 300 PRC

It offers little if nothing extra over the WSM

Maybe a couple of grains extra capacity - though some may say it’s 15, the reality is it the performance gain is negligible

300 PRC in factory form are long throated allowing the use of 215 class bullets

Well , it’s an easy task to extend the throat of a factory built WSM or simply throat a custom build accordingly for the choice of bullet should the client wish to go “heavy”

WSM has in various guises won multiple competitions in F Class which is perhaps the benchmark for long range cartridges (well moderate long range anyway to 1200 yds)

Yes you can do well with a 7mm too (7Shehane or 7/300 WSM)

The PRC is like creedmoor - designed to sell and increase sales of a particular manufacturer

Yes they work, but do nothing other well established cartridges don’t do equally well or better

What are your thoughts on .22ARC?

Just heard 7PRC will now be manufactured by Norma in their BondStrike offering and that Federal (through Remington) will now offer it as well... Sorry if its old news !

I don't see 300prc usurping 300wsm or the 7mm varieties in competition, except in ELR type shooting.

Similar position to PRC and Creedmoor

The ARC does nothing a well built 22-250 won’t do

I you want ultimate performing 22 then look at the Valkerie but the caveat to this is unique bolt face diameter
Thanks!

What do you think makes the Valkyrie stand out?

Can’t really see that as one would use 300 Norma for ELR as a minimum
I think it depends on where you're experience level is and where you see your limits. And you're probably correct in that prc offers no benefit over 300wsm if your sticking to modest distances in ELR terms.

I think that you are missing the point in a big way. No, what Hornady is doing isn’t groundbreaking. What they are doing is offering long range capability in FACTORY ammunition and rifles. No longer do you need to homeload ammunition with high bc bullets in your custom rifle with an aftermarket fast twist barrel. Now you buy a rifle in a calibre with specs that dictate that it already has a fast enough twist rate, and buy decent factory ammunition already loaded with high bc bullets. Could they have just started producing ammunition and rifles in existing calibres with better bc bullets and fast twist barrels? Probably. Would they then have had hassle from people trying to shoot said ammunition in incorrect twist rates? Definitely.

I’m sorry pal the Valkyrie is not the ultimate performing .22

It was a marketing flop. Twist rates were wrong for the 88gr bullets to perform.

The .22 ARC has its place as it fits in an AR15 just like the Valkyrie.

There is half a grain powder capacity between the ARC and Valkyrie.

In a bolt action rifle at the moment .22 creedmoor is probably the darling of the moment and has the out and out best performance in a short action.

Built correctly in a 7 twist it isn’t

I’m not coming from the factory ammunition perspective

Sub 7 Mil to 1000 in a 22 using 80 g class projectiles is something else in a 22 cf

Mmmm…22243 Middlestead?
Ken.

I’ve still got an itch for a long throated fast twist 220 swift for 90gr bullets.
Reckon that’d set these 22 creed man buns all a quiver 😁

Built a few 220 imp

They are good for 800 rounds and spectacular vo with varmint type bullet

Not for range use

Them fast, high BC 22cf are so tempting, 22-250 is bad enough. You can pull the trigger all day in them. Watched a lad with a 22 Valkyrie go through near 50 rounds in 20.minutes just going further and further out. We were hitting stones at 715 with pals 22ppc.

I’m in love with my 1-7-75 22-250
Highly capable little gun, particularly devastating with the yew tree

Devon and Cornwall police wouldn’t let me have a 7mm prc for deer. I can have it for targets but not for deer. I went for a 7mm Remington magnum with a 1in8 twist.

Hope this helps
