Lead ban date announced

If you're going to include farming practices then surely the loss of habitat to solar power plants and wind turbine choppers.
Agreed, and I do include farming. As I sit here, the first cut of silage is being harvested. It’s hard to find a more destructive practice than baiting ground nesting birds into an area by artificially creating nesting cover and then cutting that cover during the height of the breeding season.
But its not going to be banned.

Aren’t you atoll shooting lead ammunition?
Yes, I still shoot lead where I have to, but I’m not claiming that it’s harmless or that everything would be all hunky dory once we all stop.
But it will be one less pressure on wild birds. What’s your problem with that?
Face it, wild bird populations are under pressure from multiple threats, ban game releases tomorrow and there will be precious little for anyone to shoot, and all the little smiley emojis on your keyboard won’t change that fact.

And the key part you seem to constantly be missing in this - we now have a huge chip in our armour with the lead ban and that's opened us right up for all things anti. You really think they're gonna stop at just lead? 🤔 they will see an opening and strike whilst the irons hot.

This is what a number of us have been saying all along but unfortunately, there are a handful of people either to blind or to ignorant to realise that

Lots of discussion on avian flu and how much of an effect this is having on wild bird populations.

Have you questioned why birds seem unable to cope with challenge of such a virus and why its killing them in large numbers rather than them developing natural immunity.

Heavy metals, even in very low quantities can have a big effect on the immune system. There is a growing body of scientific studies in man. Could something similar be happening in the wider natural habitat. Have a read of the following article.

It’s funny you should say that because woodcock ducks geese pigeons etc are thriving in my patch ….. also who’s banning game releases and what does that have to do with lead ? The government would be far better banning domestic cats if they really care about wild bird populations

Actually may be banning game shooting would help as the release of millions and millions, 30 million is surly part of the problem effecting the flora and fauna.

As for precious little to shoot, not so sure plenty of corvids about they appear to be increasing in numbers year on year and have seen a few large number of wood pigeons on drilled fields.

Yet to be convinced that lead shot scattered over woods, brambles or agricultural land posses any risk to birds by them eating it. Locally we have a small clay ground which is mainly a mowed grass area and has some fifty years of lead shot scattered over it, yet walk the grass and you cannot see any lead shot, one would expect to be knee deep in shot.
The ground appears to be very good at swallowing it up, oh and plenty of wildlife about.

From your own ‘growing body of scientific studies🙄

Some studies have found a significant association between cadmium/lead levels and various cancers; however, no conclusive results could be extracted since other studies have not found any relationship. Further large-scale epidemiologic and experimental studies are warranted to provide insight on heavy metal toxicity in human.

Yet another load of regurgitation🤦🏻
No new scientific study just a review of existing stuff that warrants (in their opinion) more money being spent to investigate……..& keep them in a job😐
Latest study quoted is 2019 but also quoting stuff from 1996 - regurgitation in the finest🙄
Heavy metals via water pipes in Pakistan & in the atmosphere within industrial area’s of china………..
For those who are concerned about lead ammunition I suggest your time would be better served waving your placards there to deal with those contaminates

……….in the meantime, the ban is being binned in Europe!
No its not being binned. There is a ban on lead shot through out Europe.

Lead rifle bullets will still be permitted, but individual EU countries will still be able to prohibit use of lead bullets if they wish.

Bear in mind that the article posted was from 2020. There are many studies ongoing which elaborate on how lead affects immune systems.
